Fungal infection caused by Cryptococcus neoformans / gattii
Spores inhaled from soil, pigeon droppings, decaying wood
Most common systemic fungal infection in cats
Signs to watch:
Nasal form: Chronic sneezing, nasal discharge with blood, firm bump on bridge of nose
Skin form: Non-healing bumps / nodules on skin
Eye / Brain form: Eye redness / blindness, head tilt, circling, seizures, behavior change
Diagnosis:
Blood test - antigen test
Cytology / biopsy of nasal tissue or nodules
Treatment:
Long-term antifungals - months to a year (fluconazole is most common)

Vet Tip: Indoor cats can get it too. If your cat has a persistent runny nose or a weird nose bump that won't go away - get it checked ASAP ❤️
