Pyridostigmine, a medication used to treat neuromuscular disorders, can cause toxicity in animals if misused. An overdose in a dog may lead to symptoms like excessive salivation, muscle weakness, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing.

Understanding the importance of proper dosing is vital, as toxicity can result in severe muscle weakness, respiratory failure, or even death if not promptly treated.

Preventive measures include administering medication strictly as prescribed by a veterinarian, maintaining accurate dosing, storing drugs safely out of reach of animals, and monitoring animals closely for any adverse reactions.

Immediate veterinary attention is essential if toxicity is suspected.

Tiny parasites, big problems!

Ear mites can cause intense itching and lead to otitis media (middle ear infection) if left untreated.

They can cause intense itching, inflammation, and dark ear discharge.

These ectoparasites are commonly found in cats—especially kittens—and dogs, and are highly prevalent in shelters and multi-pet households. They spread primarily through direct contact with infested animals.

Routine ear checks, regular use of parasiticides and grooming, and early isolation of infected animals can prevent the outbreaks.

Dr. Briones, the Chief Surgeon, and the team, proceeded with an emergency caesarean section on a four-year-old cat that had been in labor for almost 24 hours. Due to prolonged labor, the patient’s left uterine horn ruptured. As a result, fetal fluid and waste spilled into the abdominal cavity and organs. To save the patient from severe infection and prevent multiorgan damage, the uterus was removed.

Aural hematoma is the accumulation of blood within the auricular cartilage, often caused by excessive scratching or head shaking like in an ear mite infection. It can also result from external injuries like bites or blunt force trauma.🐶

Prompt recognition and intervention are crucial to prevent complications such as fibrosis and deformity. The main treatment goals include evacuating the hematoma, preventing infections and recurrence, preserving the pinna's integrity, and managing underlying conditions.
