Hatchery Systems & Larval Rearing Specialist Central Luzon Area ?

Cornelio P. Ogsimer is a Fisheries professional with more than forty (40) years of extensive experience in aquaculture production, hatchery operations, crustacean larval rearing, fisheries research, and sustainable aquaculture development in the Philippines.

A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Fisheries major in Fish Culture, he completed specialized prawn hatchery training at the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) in Iloilo City in 1982. His professional career spans private aquaculture operations, government technical service, research engagements, consultancy work, and fisheries capability-building programs.

He spent twenty-two (22) years in private prawn hatchery operations serving as Technician and Production Manager, where he gained comprehensive expertise in hatchery systems management, natural food culture production, larval rearing operations, water quality management, and production optimization.

From 2009 to 2012, he served with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and was engaged in Bangus hatchery operations, aquaculture development programs, and applied fisheries research activities. During this period, he participated in research initiatives involving spawning and larval rearing of Blue Swimming Crab (Portunus pelagicus) and contributed to hatchery-based crustacean production development.

His technical and research experience led to consultancy engagement with Palawan Aquaculture Corporation in Coron, Palawan from 2013 to 2015, where he served as Consultant assigned to the King Crab Breeding Section and contributed to the development of crustacean hatchery production protocols and juvenile production systems.

He also maintained continuing involvement in commercial aquaculture operations through Ocean Rich Inc. from 2020 to 2022, further strengthening his practical field experience in aquaculture production systems.

Mr. Ogsimer has likewise been recognized as a Resource Speaker and Technical Speaker in various fisheries and aquaculture training programs conducted by BFAR Regional Fisheries Training Centers and related institutions. His contributions include lectures and technical sharing on hatchery technologies, aquaculture systems, and grow-out culture of high-value commercial aquatic species.

He co-authored the research study entitled:

“Induction of Molting in Hatchery-reared Mud Crab (Scylla serrata) Juveniles Through Temperature Manipulation or Autotomy”

published through SEAFDEC/AQD, contributing to the advancement of mud crab hatchery and juvenile production technologies in the Philippines.

Throughout his career, he has remained committed to promoting practical science-based aquaculture systems with emphasis on:

hatchery productivity improvement,

stabilization of natural food culture systems,

enhancement of larval survival rates,

sustainable aquaculture operations,

fisheries technology transfer,

and fisherfolk livelihood development.

At present, he continues to advocate for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture development through pro bono technical consultancy initiatives aimed at supporting government agencies, aquaculture institutions, hatchery operators, and fisheries stakeholders in strengthening aquaculture productivity and long-term industry sustainability in the Philippines.
