The image shows three powerful kicking animals side by side, with their estimated kick speeds displayed beneath each one. The ostrich is shown at approximately 80–112 km/h, while the red kangaroo and zebra are each listed at around 64–96 km/h. Their muscular legs, extended limbs, and large feet highlight the physical structures involved in delivering rapid kicks, with the ostrich standing out for its higher listed speed range.

National Zoo Awareness Day 2026 was on August 31, 2026. It’s the day we recognise the role modern zoos play in wildlife conservation, public education, and scientific research.
Modern zoos are essential institutions for conserving endangered species. They are designed to provide a safe refuge and run breeding programs at risk animals.
Additionally, they facilitate scientific research on animal behavior, biology, and health. Zoos also educate the public, particularly young people, about wildlife and biodiversity.
On that day, people were encouraged to look beyond the entertainment value of a zoo visit and to understand the work that accredited zoos do to protect endangered species and reconnect communities with the natural world.
