As weather disturbances continue to affect the country, PAWS reminds all pet owners and animal caretakers to prepare early and include their animals in their emergency and evacuation plans.
Our pets depend on us everyday for food, shelter, and care. During disasters, they depend on us all the more for their safety.
Bring your pets indoors. If you need to leave your home, bring them with you and keep them safely secured using a leash or carrier.
Never leave them chained, tied, or caged in an area that may be affected by flooding or other hazards. A chained or caged animal has no way to escape rising floodwaters, falling debris, or other dangers on their own.
And if worst comes to worst, do not leave them trapped. Set them free so they have a chance to escape and reach safety.
Our pets should never become an afterthought during an emergency. If there is room for us to get to safety, we must do everything we can to bring them to safety with us ππΎ
