Southeast Asia will likely face a food-supply shock, as food becomes more expensive on higher oil and fertilizer prices caused by the Middle East conflict as well as exposure to the effects of a potential strong El Niรฑo event in late 2026, according to a report by Goldman Sachs.

Among Southeast Asian nations, the bank expects Singapore and the Philippines to be directly exposed to shocks in global food prices, due to their position as net food importers.

This is what Food Security looks like.๐ŸŒฑ

With the rising cost of vegetables, our partner schools are taking matters into their own hands, growing fresh, nutritious produce right on campus using vertical growing towers.

What was once an empty space is now a living classroom and a source of healthy food for students and communities.

From seed to harvest, these towers are helping schools become more resilient, sustainable, and food secure, one vegetable at a time.

A nation that fails to attract its youth to agriculture is a nation gambling with its future food security.

As farmers grow older and fewer young people choose to work in agriculture, the question becomes: who will produce our food in the years to come?

Agriculture is not a dying professionโ€”it is a profession that needs renewed support, innovation, and opportunities for the next generation.

If we want a food-secure future, we must inspire, empower, and invest in young farmers today. Because the future of agriculture depends on the youth, and the future of the nation depends on agriculture.

A global food shortage could begin hitting many parts of the world as early as September or October 2026, according to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Alexander De Croo.

He warned that agricultural production is expected to decline after fertilizer manufacturing dropped sharply due to soaring oil prices linked to conflicts in the Middle East. Fertilizers are essential for boosting crop growth, and shortages can significantly reduce harvest yields worldwide.

Because modern fertilizer production depends heavily on energy, rising fuel costs are now threatening global food supplies. Experts fear the hardest-hit regions will be developing countries already struggling with inflation and unstable food systems.

This ongoing man-made crisis could be further intensified by a forecast strong El Niรฑo event, which may disrupt global weather patterns between 2026 and 2027.
