Is my horse enjoying their treatment?

Most horses adore the Equissage’s gentle vibrating and pulsating! How do you know if yours is?

We’re sure most of you already know general signs of relaxation, but if you don’t that’s absolutely fine (everyone has to start learning somewhere)!

There are lots of signs of relaxation, ranging from the super obvious (yawning) to the you’d-never-guess-mean-relaxation (rubbing the head on the leg)

Some of the main ones you will see with an Equissage / Atlas treatment are: Yawning, lots of blinking (almost falling asleep), relaxed stance, resting a hoof, licking and chewing, ears relaxed and drifting. These are mainly “sleepy” signs of relaxation.
Horses most often exhibit these sleepy signs of relaxation when enjoying an Equissage or Atlas, as they are releasing any pain or tension or stress they might have been holding.

Some quick fun facts about bones 🦴

Horses have 205 bones, just one less than us humans.

Their legs bones don’t function independently, each one is connected or aligned with one or more other bones! 🦴

The equine skull has 34 bones

The stifle joint is made up of the femur, patella and tibia !

On average horses have 18 pairs of ribs, though sometimes there may be a nineteenth rib on one or both sides, and some breeds commonly in Arabians , they may only have 17 pairs of ribs.

Some fast facts about the horse’s skeleton.

Horses do not have a collarbone. The collarbone for a human, is basically what holds our arms onto our skeleton, so it’s a pretty big deal. Horses’ “arms” are held onto their skeleton by muscles and tendons.

Bone is the second hardest substance in the horses’ body, after tooth enamel!

Horses’ teeth take up more space in their heads than their brains.

We had a visit to Te Horo over the weekend and met some lovely horses and their lovely humans !!

It was a great time, experimenting which modes the horses preferred on the equissage and we had our smallest client to date !! 🥰

This year has been full of wonderful horses, and people, with lots of learning opportunities!

I have loved meeting new horses and their wonderful humans. It’s been a rewarding experience, with lots of learning along the way.
