There are vouchers now available

Urgent message for cat owners - we have more Snip 'n' Chip vouchers available now, and kittens like these demonstrate why desexing is so important.

We get so many litters like these coming through the doors of our Centres every day 💔 Sick, unwanted, and struggling - and sadly, not all of them make it. While two of this litter recovered and were adopted into loving homes, one was just too sick and didn't pull through 😞

By desexing cats, we can stop unwanted litters and prevent suffering before it occurs. Our Snip 'n' Chip vouchers help cat owners get their cat desexed and microchipped for just $30 🙏

From Wednesday 8 July, we’re working with local participating veterinary clinics to offer this service to cat owners who may be struggling. We’d like to give a huge shoutout to these vets for helping us to make this possible.

There are a limited number of vouchers available for those in need – please only register for a voucher if you are 100% certain that you’ll use it, so that it doesn’t go to waste.

Bookings are now open – check the link to see if vouchers are available in your area, and register today: https://book.spcadesexing.nz/

Arthritis and your pet

As the cooler weather sets in, older pets may experience arthritic flare-ups.

Thankfully, with proper home care and professional guidance from your veterinarians, we can alleviate their discomfort

Your vet can explore medication and special diets to ensure their comfort and health, but, there are plenty of small changes you can do at home for your pet.

Attached is an informative article providing valuable tips on keeping pets comfortable during winter.

Older animals tend to find the cold weather over winter a bit of a challenge, especially those with arthritis. Arthiritis is inflammation of the joints and can have many underlying causes including prior injury, degenerative disease and developmental disorders.

Lest We Forget (The Bond)

Through thick, red mud on foreign ground,
A, New Zealand, soldier's loyal hound.
No word was spoken, but eyes could see,
The shared, deep bond of loyalty.

The horses stood in shell-torn haze,
Waiting through the endless days.
With steaming breath and trembling fear,
They knew that danger was quite near.

A carrier pigeon, wings of grey,
Flew through the gunfire in the day.
It carried messages of fate,
To save a buddy, a loyal mate.

Though men went out to fight and fall,
The animals answered the same call.
The soldier, horse, the dog, the bird,
Shared in a fate that was not heard.

As poppies grow for men who died,
Their loyal mates were by their side.
The ANZAC spirit lives, we say,
In human and in creature clay.

Greetings, it has been quiet around here. I've resumed and find myself in the midst of school holiday mode. I hope you're all enjoying the break with your kids, haha.

Today's rain is beneficial for plants, but the forecast for Sunday appears uncertain.

In preparation for potential severe weather this weekend, it is recommended we check we have essentials for both you and your pets. Make sure you have food, shelter etc prepped and ready to utilize if needed.

Hopefully, the forecast will prove to be overly cautious, and we'll get through it smoothly.

MetService is tracking Tropical Cyclone Vaianu which is forecast to move southwards bringing severe wind and rain to New Zealand over the weekend.

To prepare for this:

🐶 Make a plan for your whānau and pets.
⚠️ Bring inside or tie down anything that strong winds could break or pick up. If you have a trampoline, turn it upside down to minimise the surface area exposed to wind and tie it down firmly.
🌲 Remove any debris or loose items from around your property. Branches and firewood can become airborne in strong winds.
🏡 Check on your neighbours and anyone who might need your help.
🐄 Move farm animals to areas that are safe from flooding and high winds.
🚮 Clear waste and debris away from drains.
🔦 Be prepared with torches and have a solar or battery powered radio so you can keep up with the latest news and alerts.

More information on what to do before, during and after a storm is on https://getready.govt.nz/emergency/storms

Stay up to date with the latest weather information from MetService New Zealand.

Local information will be provided by your Civil Defence Emergency Management Group.

This can be a stressful time. If you need to talk to somebody, you can free text or call 1737 to speak to a counsellor, call Healthline on 0800 611 116 or talk to your local GP.

Please share this information with whānau, friends and neighbours.
