❤️ ASH'S WAIT IS FINALLY OVER ❤️

Every long-stay dog dreams of the day their perfect family walks through the door.

For Ash, that day has finally come.

After spending far too long waiting for a family to call his own, Ash has found exactly what he deserves, a loving home filled with people who adore him.

We were overjoyed recently when a group of young people came to Thames SPCA with a very special mission. Rather than looking at the puppies or newest arrivals, they wanted to meet our long-stay dogs, the ones who are so often overlooked while they patiently wait for their chance.

When they met Ash, the connection was almost instant.

It was clear he was content in their company, and before long they returned to take him home for a weekend trial. There was just one small question mark....their home already included five cats and a small dog, and cats were completely new territory for Ash!

Thanks to careful, slow introductions, Ash's first meetings with the cats went extremely well. Moving into a home already ruled by five feline residents could have been daunting, but Ash seemed happy to respect their space, and the cats accepted him into the family.

The smiles, excitement, and pure happiness were bursting at the seams when the family returned to make Ash's adoption official. It was a truly special moment for everyone involved.

After saying his goodbyes, Ash proudly completed the famous Thames SPCA Walk of Fame and headed out the door towards his new life.

We couldn't be happier for this beautiful boy and his wonderful family.

To the incredible young people who chose to seek out a long-stay dog, thank you. It takes a special kind of compassion to look beyond age, length of stay, or popularity and instead focus on giving a deserving animal the chance they have been waiting for.

Your thoughtfulness, kindness, and willingness to open your hearts to Ash gives us so much hope.

If this is the future generation of animal lovers, then the future is looking incredibly bright.

Happy tails, Ash. ❤️

🌟 One Team, One Mission: A Special Visit to Thames SPCA 🌟

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming our CEO, Todd, to Thames SPCA as part of his nationwide tour visiting SPCA centres across New Zealand.

There's something incredibly valuable about meeting face-to-face with the person leading our organisation. Hearing firsthand about the vision, goals, and future direction of SPCA was both inspiring and reassuring. What stood out most was the continued focus on what matters most – the animals. Every decision, every goal, and every plan for the future is centred around improving animal welfare and creating the best possible outcomes for animals in need.

Todd shared that throughout his tour of SPCA centres around the country, he had mentioned Thames SPCA several times. He described our centre as "small but mighty" – a comment that made us incredibly proud. While we may be one of the smallest SPCA centres in New Zealand, our adoption rates consistently rank among some of the highest. It was wonderful to see the hard work of our team and community recognised on a national level.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to everyone who took the time to come along to the centre yesterday to meet Todd and listen to his presentation. We greatly appreciate your interest, support, and the conversations shared throughout the visit.

One of the most powerful reminders from the day was just how much SPCA relies on its community. Across New Zealand, there are around 4,000 volunteers supporting just a few hundred staff members. Those numbers highlight something we see every day here at Thames SPCA – that our volunteers and fosterers are not simply helping us; they are an essential part of who we are and what we achieve.

To every volunteer, foster carer, and staff member who is part of our team today, and to those who have been part of our journey throughout the years, thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and countless hours of hard work have helped save and improve the lives of thousands of animals. Every adoption, every recovery, and every happy ending is possible because of people like you.

Yesterday's visit was a wonderful reminder that while our centres may be spread across the country, we are all united by a shared purpose: creating a better future for New Zealand's animals.

From all of us at Thames SPCA, thank you for being part of our journey. We truly couldn't do it without you. ❤️

Dog owners! Do you need advice on trimming your pet's nails? 🐕️ We know it can sometimes be a daunting task, and many dogs (and owners!) are nervous when it comes to getting this done.

We've created a helpful guide explaining how to know if your dog's nails need trimming, important things to be aware of, and when to seek veterinary advice ❤️ Understanding the anatomy of the dog's nail is crucial in ensuring you can do this safely (avoiding the inner 'quick'), while keeping your dog happy and healthy.

Check out the detailed guide on our website, and please share this to help other dog owners in the community: https://www.spca.nz/advice-and-welfare/article/trimming-your-dogs-nails

🐾 Keeping Spirits High and Tails Wagging 🐾

Despite the recent unfortunate events, we haven't let it dampen our spirits here at Thames SPCA. Thanks to the incredible support of our community, it's very much business as usual, and we've had plenty of reasons to smile this week.

This week has brought some wonderful adoptions. One lucky family fell in love with not just one, but three new furry family members – just imagine how complete their home must feel now with all that love and companionship.

We were also thrilled to see another adult cat find a loving home this week. Adult cats are so often overlooked in favour of kittens, making these happy endings even more special. Watching them leave shelter life behind for the comfort of a family home never gets old.

Along with these happy endings, several other kittens and an adult dog have also found loving homes this week, each one starting an exciting new chapter with their forever family.

One dedicated family even travelled for hours to find their perfect puppy at Thames SPCA, reminding us just how much people are willing to do to give an animal a loving home.

Adding to the good news, one of our long-stay adult dogs headed out on a trial today. We have everything crossed that this is the happy ending he has been waiting for.

While we're celebrating these success stories, there are still many kittens, cats, puppies, and adult dogs patiently waiting for homes of their own. Every adoption creates space for us to help another animal in need.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we're keeping our focus where it belongs—helping animals find the loving homes they deserve. ❤️🐾

🎁 Local Support, Happy Pets, and Wagging Tails! 🎁

A huge thank you to The Warehouse Thames for their recent donation of supplies to Thames SPCA.

We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing kindness and support shown by our local community. Donations like these make a real difference and help us provide comfort, enrichment, and care to the animals who need it most.

The supplies generously donated have gone directly to our animals, and as you can see in the photos, they are already being put to very good use! These goodies are helping keep tails wagging and purrs rumbling.

Thank you again to The Warehouse Thames for supporting local animals in need and helping us make a difference in our community.

Every animal featured in these photos is currently available for adoption through Thames SPCA and would love a family of their own. If you're considering adding a furry friend to your household, we encourage you to visit our website and meet the wonderful animals waiting for homes.

💔 We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Thames Police and Gateway Glass for their incredible support yesterday morning following the unfortunate break-in and petty theft at Thames SPCA in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Being woken up to the news that our shelter had been broken into was absolutely heart-wrenching and deeply disappointing for our staff, volunteers, and wider community. As an animal shelter, we dedicate our time, energy, and hearts to caring for vulnerable animals and supporting our community, so events like this are incredibly disheartening.

Thanks to the fast response and kindness shown by Thames Police and Gateway Glass, our centre was secured and operational again in time for our 10am opening hours yesterday morning. Their professionalism, urgency, and support meant we could continue caring for the animals who rely on us with minimal disruption, and for that we are truly grateful.

We also want to thank our amazing community for the ongoing support, kind messages, and encouragement we have received. It means more than you know and reminds us how lucky we are to have such a caring community standing behind us. 🐾❤️

Adopted together!

🐾 Bonnie & Clara – Two Beautiful Long Stay Kittens Waiting to Be Loved 🐾

At just 4 months old, Bonnie and Clara are two beautiful tabby-and-white girls who have sadly become long stay kittens at Thames SPCA. While so many others have found homes, these sweet girls are still patiently waiting for someone to finally choose them. 💔

Bonnie is a quiet little heart with the gentlest nature. Her loving personality shines through with soft purrs, gentle affection, and those sweet little moments that completely melt your heart. She forms deep bonds and would love someone willing to give her the patience and kindness she deserves.

Clara is equally gentle, with a delicate nature and so much hidden love waiting to come out. As she settles in, she becomes such a lovely companion, showing her affection through curious little moments, quiet cuddles, and soft companionship. She’s the kind of kitten who builds a truly special bond over time.

These girls enjoy spending time together, but they are also confident enough to be adopted separately if the right homes come along. Whether together or apart, they simply deserve loving families where they can finally feel safe, cherished, and home at last.

Both Bonnie and Clara are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date with flea and worm treatments, so they are more than ready for their forever homes.

Please come meet these beautiful girls at Thames SPCA and help us find them the loving futures they’ve been waiting so patiently for. 🩷

🐾 Pet of the Week – Meet Lucky 🐾

Lucky is the kind of cat who acts like he’s known you forever. This handsome black and white boy is incredibly friendly, confident, and full of affection. The moment you meet him, he’s straight over for pats, scratches, and attention, more than happy to make himself right at home in your heart.

At almost 2 years old, Lucky was sadly surrendered when his owners could no longer keep him. Sadly, adult cats like Lucky often spend much longer waiting for homes than kittens, despite making such wonderful companions. With his easygoing nature and love for people, Lucky is ready to prove just how special adult cats can be.

He loves following his people around, curling up nearby, and soaking up every bit of attention he can get. Loyal, cuddly, and always keen for company, Lucky is happiest simply being close to his humans.

Lucky can be adopted through Thames SPCA. His health has been checked, he is desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, and up to date with flea and worm treatments.

Adoption fee: $149

Check out Lucky in this weeks Valley Profile!
