Happy International Dog Day ๐พ
We firmly believe that dog ownership is a privilege, not a right.
For generations, humans have selectively bred dogs to live and work alongside us. We've asked them to fit into our homes, our families and an increasingly human world โ and with that comes a responsibility to try to understand the animals we've chosen to share our lives with.
Training shouldn't just be about teaching a dog to do what we say. It's about learning to communicate with them. Understanding what their behaviour is telling us. Giving them the skills they need to navigate our world. Meeting their needs. Advocating for them when they need us to. And sometimes adjusting our expectations rather than asking them to continually adjust theirs.
The dogs I, (Sophie), have shared my own life with have taught me an enormous amount about dogs, but they've taught me just as much about patience, resilience, humour, grief, love and life.
And through Real World Canine, Sarah and I have the incredible privilege of helping other people understand theirs a little better too.
Here's to the puppies, the adolescents, the oldies, the easy dogs, the complicated dogs, the working dogs, the couch potatoes and every dog in between.
