This handsome fella is looking for a new home. He is son of Ellie and Moses from my black tri litter last year. (Dang, if I was cooler I would have called them the All Black Try litter. But since they were 7 males and one female I called them the 7 Brides for 7 Brothers litter. Also a classic name. Not as cool). He is one year old. His family has decided to move overseas. Through no fault of his own he is now with me while looking for a new home. I always thought it was the most important thing to find good homes for my puppies, but it becomes even more important when rehoming an adult dog. He should never have to transition again so I am very particular in what I’m looking for. He is not a rescue and he is happy with me for as long as it takes to find him the right home.
I bred him and I raised and trained him through most of the critical socialisation period. This was an exceptional litter and I loved every one of them so much! He is a happy, sweet, good natured dog and shows no reactivity or aggression to people or other dogs. He likes water. He sleeps well in his crate (took a few days to settle). He also has slept on the floor by my bed. He is house trained, although as an intact male he did mark in my house at first. He takes new things in stride. He is a very typical Aussie, good energy but calm in the house. However, he has not been trained, he needs to learn social manners and he pulls hard on the leash. He is extremely trainable and loves treats but he absolutely has to go to someone who is disciplined and committed to training. He had not been off the leash and has very little recall - I have had him off the leash a lot and when there’s nobody around he’s excellent but he has little recall or focus around distractions. His leash walking is improving but needs work.
He is an intact male with a natural full bob tail from exceptional lines. I had an agreement with the owners to keep him intact for me to use for breeding and I’d like to continue that agreement in his new home for a few months.
This is the type of home I’m looking for. Please don’t comment on this post, if you think this sounds like you then please call me 027 427 9134.
I am looking for a person who:
- has stable job and home and relationship
- someone who is happy and content in themselves, who would want a dog because they want to share their life with a great companion and are willing to work hard to get the best out of a dog - for the dogs sake and for theirs
- someone who doesn’t travel a lot, who doesn’t party a lot, who when they are home they are home, and who won’t be moving.
- someone who knows they have the self discipline to get up an hour earlier to ensure he gets a walk and play and fed before work and who will do the same after work and looks forward to not only practising training during the day but looks forward to training class each week.
- someone who doesn’t say “tired” or “busy” every time someone asks how they are.
- someone who is so committed to training that before they call me they have found a trainer in their area and already knows when they could start classes.
- Probably someone on the North Island due to wanting to use him a couple times for breeding.
- someone who knows they have the time, and want to spend the time, with a beautiful dog, companion and friend.
- someone who appreciates good food for themselves and will therefore spend the money to keep him on high quality food. Who has the financial means and commitment to pay for pet insurance and who will pay for vet bills as he ages.
- I’d prefer him to be an only dog so he gets that beautiful full relationship with his person and all the love, attention and commitment of his new family.
If you would like to talk more about this wonderful boy give me a call. But honestly, please don’t call if you just think he’s handsome or you just want an Aussie. Don’t be led by emotions into a decision you may not be willing or able to keep. This needs to be a logical and well thought out decision because his precious emotions are involved. This is a serious commitment and I have pretty high expectations for who I’d place him with.
