🐾 TRANSPORT - TAIHAPE TO WELLINGTON 🐾

Is anyone passing through Taihape heading to Wellington before Monday?

We have two 4 week old babes to get down to Feral Nation in Wellington.
We have secured a ride down on Monday but if we can get them there sooner that would be best.

Please let us know if you're traveling down and have space for 2 tiny dots 😻

Stuart had his check up yesterday!
His adult teeth are all in and look beautiful, but his gums are still angry 😞
He is booked in for his scale and polish next week. Thank you again to everyone who helped raise the money for his dental 🥹🤍

Stuart is otherwise happy and healthy, he eats well and loves to play and snuggle. He has the softest little paws and he has integrated into my house very well! The first day I let him out I forgot he was there because he's so chill 😹😻
He loves being around my cats but doesn't bother them... That doesn't stop Mama Jinxy from hissing at him every chance she gets, but she's still her usual happy self outside of bumping into Stuart and mistaking him for Carmel 😹

It's hard to know whether Stuart's mouth will clear as he grows out of kittenhood or if it will be something that needs keeping an eye on for the rest of his life, but we have heard it's relatively common in teething kittens and so we are staying optimistic 🤍

Smudge update 🐾

After a month in care Smudge decided that the most human interaction she was interested in was being fed, and otherwise would prefer to be left the hell alone 😹 so she was returned to the colony.

Her ear tip is a visual indication that she is part of our TNR program (trap-neuter-return) so if anyone traps her they can see immediately she is cared for.
She is also microchipped and registered to IBKC, on the off chance the ear tip isn't sighted.

Smudge has become very vocal since returning to the colony but still doesn't want to get too close.. At least she's not running away from us 😹

Two of our colony females have had kittens in the past few days..I am hoping to find out where they are ASAP so I can keep an eye until it's safe to trap the families.
Smudge is lucky she never has to experience this life. When she was speyed they found she was pregnant, and if she hadn't gotten in the trap she would be having her first litter of kittens very soon.

A quick reminder that if you see young kittens, do not remove them! Their best chance of survival is with their mama.
Check the situation, keep an eye from a distance and wait for mama to come back. She might be gone for several hours, and identifying mama is extremely important for the wellbeing and survival of the family.
If you come across stray kittens please reach out to us or your local rescue for support 🤍

Thank you to everyone who came to our quiz night, and who purchased raffle tickets 😻

The raffle was drawn at the police station on 23rd September and all prizes were collected.

Our first quiz night was a success, and thanks to everyone involved we managed to raise $1604 which will go such a long way to helping kitties in need, especially through kitten season. Thank you all for such a great night with the best vibes 😻

Stuart update 🐈

Stuart's mouth was looking better at his check up yesterday 😻
His gums are still quite red and sore, but with his antibiotics on board and his smelly breath cleared, I know he must be feeling more comfortable!

After a good talk with the vet, the decision was made to hold off on his scrape and polish until all of his adult teeth are in.
He still has some baby molars and, with his mouth not as bad as it was a week ago, it's worth waiting a month.

Stuart spent his first night out of bathroom jail (isolation) and in my bedroom last night.. Now we just need to work on his night time manners, because biting the back of my head/hair or attacking my hand randomly through the night is not appreciated 😹

He's lucky he's so stinking cute, and when he's not being chaotic he does make the best cuddle buddy 🤍

Floki is missing from Raetihi Ohakune Road by Smiths Road, Ohakune, and was last seen on Saturday 12th September.
He is friendly and approachable.

Please check your sheds/garages in case he has wandered in and gotten stuck.

Stuart and IBKC would like to say a huge thank you to all who bought raffle tickets to fund his dental. We did not expect them to sell that quickly but thanks to all of you, we were able to book him in the next day 🥹

Next Wednesday he finishes his antibiotics and will be in for a check up. All going well, he will have his scale and polish on the same day.
