These days 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗟𝗲𝘄𝗶𝘀 juggles dressage with mounted games, so let's dial back a couple of years to hear what the Interschools meant to her:
Hi Interschools Family! I’m Gemma Lewis and I took part in Interschools champs week in 2022 and 2023, in Christchurch. I competed in all the disciplines available at the time (CTR, dressage, SJ & SH and arena eventing) on my superstar of a pony! Being that I competed in interschools the first time it was run as a champs week, I wasn’t quite sure how it would work! I had competed in the individual interschools competitions for a few different disciplines separately, but CTR was something I had never done before, so I guess I was excited to give it a try!
𝗠𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆: In the first year that interschools was run, we had some quite competitive individuals but we often struggled to put a full team together for each discipline. Interschools champs week meant that we all got to compete together and support each other and we ended up winning overall too!
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗼𝘄: I am currently halfway through a double degree, Bachelor of Engineering with Honours and a Bachelor of Science, at the University of Canterbury alongside riding. We have created ELDR Equestrian alongside my family, through which we are breeding and producing horses across many disciplines. I am mostly focused on dressage and mounted games at the moment (though you will definitely still see me out jumping) – I recently won the Kings Chambers FEI Dressage Young Rider series and am actually currently over in Europe to compete in the World Team Championships and the Royal Welsh Show (for mounted games), both as part of the NZ team!

What an amazing experience I had at the Royal Welsh Show 2026 riding for the NZ team 🖤🤍 and so much fun! I couldn’t be more grateful to Poppy and Amy Dixon for letting me borrow Bee and being the best pony lenders I could ask for, I had the best time with her! Prettiest pony 😍

Gemma will proudly wear the silver fern as part of the Open New Zealand Team at Worlds — a very special achievement as this marks her first selection for a Worlds team.

Representing New Zealand on the world stage is a milestone to celebrate, and we’re excited to see Gemma bring her passion, dedication, and experience to the competition. 🇳🇿✨

Gemma’s international journey doesn’t stop there — she will also have the incredible opportunity to compete at the Royal Welsh Show during her time overseas. What an amazing experience to travel halfway around the world, represent your country, and have the chance to compete at two prestigious events along the way. 🌏🐴

Georgia will proudly wear the silver fern as part of the Under-18 New Zealand team. Representing her country on the world stage for the first time is a very special milestone, and we can’t wait to see her in New Zealand colours.

Incredibly proud of being named the inaugural recipient of the Penny Pearce Memorial Award for scores over 70% at FEI YR/Small Tour and above. We also won the Kings Chambers FEI Young Rider Performance Series.

Kiki and I were 1st= in the AMS Performance League at Level 3 and Ru was 2nd by a point at Small Tour.

This season has very much been about making the most of it, with our NI trip not being confirmed until I saw how Ru felt competing for three days at SIs (incidentally the same day we left 🙈). While it might not have gone perfectly, between wasp stings, torrential rain and the heat/humidity, I am so grateful for everything that we achieved, not only this season but in the five seasons we’ve had together. Thank you Ru 🖤
