CALL TO ACTION - TO OUR HORSE WHÄNAU
Our whÄnau are mamae. We cry with them. They are strong, tough, and resilient; but this is heavy, this is heartbreaking, and we are all feeling it.
The far East Cape region (Kopuapounamu, Awatere, Te Araroa, Horoera, Punaruku, Hicks Bay, Wharekahika, PÅtaka, Waikura) has been hit hard by severe weather and flooding.
Homes have been damaged. Communities have been cut off. Rivers have overflowed. State Highway 35 has been impacted. WhÄnau have been evacuated.
When people think of MÄori horse shows, they instantly think of the NgÄti horse;
East Coast bred. Strong. Tough. Built like their people.
He Wiwi. He Naati.
These horses come from this whenua. So do the people. This is whakapapa. This is home. As horse people, storytellers, riders, and a community built on mana, aroha, and resilience, this is the moment we stand up.
These platforms:
Get Your Leg Over, Native Ride Television Series, Tui Tekaās Trails, HÅiho - Riding On, Te Hapori HÅiho - The National MÄori Horse Association Aotearoa Trust
- were built to celebrate our people.
NOW OUR PEOPLE NEED US.
