Lovely Herb and his family presented to KEV last weekend in a tight situation!
Herb had tried to help himself to a chicken soup snack and got his head firmly stuck in the can.

Our team, vet Vicky and nurse Leigh, knew just what to do having previously freed a feline patient's head from a peanut butter jar.

They immediately provided oxygen support and pain relief, and with the help of plenty of l**e, he was gently eased from can - a little dazed and confused, but none worse for wear 🤎🐱🥫

Sweet little 14-week-old Ellie spent some time with our after-hours team last month — and completely stole everyone’s hearts with those irresistible puppy-dog eyes! How could you not fall in love?

🐶💕Ellie’s lovely owners are thrilled she’s doing well and were incredibly grateful for the care she received overnight. It’s moments like these that make what we do so special 💖

⚠️ A quick Easter reminder for pet owners:
Some of our favourite Easter treats can be dangerous for pets:
🍫 Chocolate – can cause vomiting, tremors, seizures
🍇 Hot cross buns with raisins, currants or sultanas – can lead to kidney failure in dogs
🎁 Foil & wrappers – can cause gut problems, even blockages if swallowed
Even small amounts can be enough to cause problems.

Kāpiti Emergency Vets (KEV) is here 🐾

Created by Vets On Riverbank, KEV is a dedicated after-hours service designed to care for all companion animals across the Kāpiti Coast — not just existing clients.

Based out of our new clinic at 7 Te Hana Way, Ōtaki, KEV is run by a team of experienced veterinarians and nurses and are available 6:00pm-8:00am weekdays and from 1:00pm Saturday to 8:00am Monday along with public holidays for all of your unexpected pet problems.

Our goal in creating this service is simple: to ensure that urgent veterinary care is available locally, so you don’t have to face the added worry of travelling out of the region when your pet needs help most.

✨ What makes KEV different:
• Open to everyone — you don’t need to be a registered VOR client.
• Providing trusted care outside of the standard hours of most clinics in New Zealand.
• Experienced team with onsite monitoring and support.
• Access to advanced diagnostic equipment, including X-ray and ultrasound.
• Consultations and over-the-phone advice available for less urgent concerns that arise outside of daytime hours.

Vets On Riverbank are proud to introduce Kāpiti Emergency Vets (KEV) — a dedicated after-hours service available to ALL companion animals across the Kāpiti Coast.

We all know pets have a habit of getting sick or injured at the most inconvenient times. Whether it’s late at night, after work, or over the weekend, it can be incredibly stressful when something unexpected happens.

KEV is available 6:00pm-8:00am weekdays and from 1:00pm Saturday to 8:00am Monday along with public holidays for all your unexpected pet problems. Whether your pet needs urgent interventions or support for a less severe problem, our goal is to give pet owners peace of mind and ensure your furry family members can get the care they need, whenever they need it.

🐾 What this means for you:
• You can now call for advice after hours if you’re worried about your pet and unsure what to do.
• Pets can be seen in the evening or overnight if something concerning happens.
• Patients who need extra care can be monitored onsite by a veterinarian and veterinary nurse, with 24/7 supervision.

By establishing KEV, we aim to ensure that every companion animal on the Kāpiti Coast has access to timely and professional care, regardless of the hour and we are honored to be here to help our community when it matters most. 🐾

Equine and large animal clients’ after-hours services will continue as normal through Vets On Riverbank (VOR). Our equine and farm veterinarians remain available on call. 🐎🐑
