A fantastic two days at the Catchment Communities Aotearoa National Forum in Wellington, held 16–17 June.
Otago was well represented. Photo below includes Camille McAtamney, Peter Adam, Nicole Sutton, Janine Smith, Judy Miller, Sam Dixon, Craig Simpson and Kate Wilson.
A great opportunity to connect with catchment groups from across New Zealand, share experiences, and hear directly from government on support going forward and the important role catchment communities play in supporting healthy landscapes, waterways and communities.
Thanks to CCA for bringing everyone together and creating such a valuable space for collaboration and learning. 🌿💧

Great that OCC Kick-start Funding was able to contribute towards the purchase of a YSI ProQuatro multiparameter water quality instrument to support the excellent work of WAI Wānaka 💧

otagocatchments.co.nz/funding

Kā mihi nui to OCC - Otago Catchment Community Inc for their kick-start funding support. This funding restored and strengthened our ability to monitor freshwater health across the rohe (region) by contributing to the purchase of a YSI ProQuatro multiparameter water quality instrument.

Since February, it's been used during biodiversity monitoring stream health assessments across Hāwea, Luggate and Wānaka, improving data accuracy, efficiency and early detection of environmental issues – helping guide better protection and restoration efforts.

It also supports community education and hands-on monitoring, building stronger stewardship, for local waterways.

We’re grateful to OCC for helping support healthier local environments. 💙

How should Otago’s pests be managed? 🤔

Come to our community drop-in sessions for a chat! 📢

We’re reviewing Otago’s Regional Pest Management Plan. 📝🎯

This plan identifies pests in Otago and establishes pest rules and goals.

Our previous survey asked Otago communities which pests worried them — and the top five were:

• rabbits
• feral cats
• possums
• wilding conifers
• mustelids (like ferrets, stoats, weasels)

NOW, we want to know how you think these pests (and more) should be managed in Otago.

Come along to a drop-in session to share your thoughts — chat with our biosecurity and policy teams and ask questions.

🗓️ We have eight sessions across Otago, starting in Dunedin on Monday, 15 June. We also have an online session on 30 June.

To find out more about the drop-in sessions or to give your feedback online:
👉 orc.govt.nz/pestfeedback

It’s your chance to help shape the pest plan for Otago.

Feedback closes Monday, 8 July.

🔗 Don't let your communities miss out on having their say about how pests could be managed in Otago — tag them in the comments and share the info about the drop-in sessions!

Community groups, creatives and for-purpose organisations play a vital role in our region, but many face challenges such as limited time, funding, and access to professional development.

That’s why Three Lakes Cultural Trust and huddl have partnered to bring The Learning Space by ArtReach to Queenstown Lakes and Central Otago - a free online learning platform designed to build skills, confidence and impact.

The Learning Space was adapted from the highly successful ArtReach programme developed by Creative Waikato. We are thrilled to have the CEO of Creative Waikato. Dr. Jeremy Mayall, joining us for an information session on The Learning Space, diving deeper into:

📌Project Planning: Master the key steps for successful project delivery.
