🦆 Duck Shooting Season is Here — Is Your Pet Prepared?

Hey Pawsome family 🐾

With duck shooting season kicking off this weekend (2nd May), those early morning gunshots can be really unsettling for our furry friends. What’s a tradition for some can be a stressful time for pets — especially dogs and cats who are sensitive to loud, sudden noises.

Signs your pet might be anxious:
• Shaking or trembling
• Hiding or trying to escape
• Excessive barking or meowing
• Pacing or restlessness
• Loss of appetite

How you can help:
• Keep them indoors during peak shooting times (6:30am – 6:30pm, especially early mornings and evenings)
• Create a safe, quiet space with their bed, toys, and something that smells like you
• Close curtains and windows to help muffle the noise
• Play calming music or white noise to help mask outside sounds
• Stay calm — pets pick up on your energy
• Consider anxiety aids like calming treats, pheromone diffusers, or vet-prescribed options if needed
• Make sure your pet is microchipped and details are up to date, just in case they get frightened and escape

If your pet really struggles during this time, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team — we’re here to help keep them as calm and comfortable as possible 💙

Give your pets a little extra love and reassurance — they’ll appreciate it more than you know 🐶🐱

🌩️ Weather Worries? Your Pets Feel It Too 🐾

Just like us, our furry friends can get anxious when the weather turns wild. Thunder, lightning, heavy rain, and strong winds can be scary — especially when pets don’t understand what’s happening.

Signs your pet might be struggling with weather anxiety:
🐶 Pacing or restlessness
🐱 Hiding or trying to escape
🐾 Excessive barking or meowing
💔 Shaking, panting, or clingy behaviour

How you can help:
✔️ Create a safe, cozy space where they feel secure
✔️ Close windows and curtains to reduce noise and flashes
✔️ Turn on calming music or white noise
✔️ Stay calm — your pet takes cues from you
✔️ Offer comfort, but don’t reinforce fearful behaviour

If your pet’s anxiety seems severe or is getting worse, reach out to us — we can help with tailored advice or treatment options to keep them feeling safe and supported.

Stay safe, stay dry, and give your pets a little extra love during stormy weather 💙🐾

Confirmed Case of Canine Parvovirus (Parvo) in Our Area ❤️‍🩹

We’ve had a confirmed case of Canine Parvovirus in the area and wanted to give our PAWsome Vets families a heads-up.

Parvo is a highly resilient virus that can survive in the environment for over a year and can easily spread via clothing, footwear, and other surfaces—making prevention extremely important.

💉 Prevention is your best defence

✅ Ensure your dog’s vaccinations are up to date
If you’re unsure, please get in touch and we can check for you.
✅ Avoid public areas unless your dog is fully vaccinated
This is especially important for puppies, who are most at risk.
🐶 Signs to watch for:
⚠️ Vomiting
💩 Diarrhoea (often bloody)
😴 Lethargy
🥺 Loss of appetite
💧 Dehydration

If your dog shows any of these symptoms, please contact us immediately 📞—early treatment can be life-saving.
Keeping our pets safe is a team effort. Thank you for helping protect our local dog community 🐾💙

🐣🌸 Easter Hours Update from PAWsome Vets 🌸🐣

Just a heads up to all our lovely clients:

We’ll be closed on Friday 3rd April (Good Friday) and back in clinic on Tuesday 7th April after a well-earned Easter break.

If your pet needs medication or you’ve got any concerns, please get in touch with us before the long weekend so we can help 🐾

While you’re enjoying the Easter treats, just a friendly reminder:
🍫 Chocolate is a big no-no for pets — even small amounts can make them unwell.
