The Friday Goodsorts crew rocked up, jackets on, ready to rumble. Within the first minute, Georgie, Riley and Harper bagged a possum. They were 10 metres off the track but nearly impossible to get to. Fortunately the other dogs didn’t want to go and assist them. I left my 2IC to wait for them to emerge from their hunt, whilst I quickly departed with the rest of the crew. They had a glorious time, sniffing out good stuff enhanced by the rain. They are a delightful bunch of inquisitive wee pupsters. Oscar takes the lead and has to double back constantly, they don’t make ground quick enough for his liking. They are too busy sniffing out good stuff and exploring off track. We got back to find Georgie had finished possum hunting, but Riley and Harper were still missing. Calling and whistling brought Harper out. She had a gorgeous new puffer jacket on, it was wet and muddy, but hadn’t been shredded by blackberry. So that was a bonus. Eventually Riley emerged, nonchalant as ever “Did someone call, is it treat time”?

Poppy was keen to play chase. She let the other dogs know, if they wanted to be chased, she was available. Ralph and Ozzie took her up on her offer, and they had a fabulous time zipping in and around the trees. We were the furthest distance away from the van, when a group of cyclists came up behind us. We moved to the side and let them through. Fleur is petrified of cyclists. I’m unsure if it’s the bikes or the people wearing helmets looking like aliens, but they scare the beejeysus out of her. By the time they had braved going past scary dogs that might sniff their legs, Fleur was nowhere to be seen. We hoped she had legged it back to the van. She hadn’t! I loaded the dogs into the van and headed back to find her. I hadn’t gone 10metres, when over the hill she came, sprinting fast in case she got left behind. Good girl Fleur. She was very happy to get in the van and cuddle up beside me. Lizzie, knackered from the chasing games, had a snooze and used Fleur as a pillow.

Bella is awaiting the ‘all clear’ from her vet. So hopefully she will be back with the Staffi Squad soon. Rosie has loved riding shotgun in the van, taking Bella’s seat up front. I can imagine the conversation when Bella is back. And I can’t see Rosie keeping the seat. If Chilli is prepared to drop a few kgs, they might all squeeze in. Watch this space!

Ritchie’s little brother, Bodhi, is now bigger than Ritchie. He is so keen to get in the van. The only thing stopping him is the crate fencing. Today he was sure he could get over it. Your day will come Bodhi. He’s probably sick of the stories of great adventures from Ritchie. It was warm today. The dogs had to seek out puddles to take cooling baths in. Buster, in black and with a winter’s worth of growth to his coat, was feeling the heat. He sought out the shade and rolled in wet grass. Despite the heat, the chase games continued. They had a lot of fun.

Fleur and her crew headed into the forest this morning. With all the logging going on in the area, we are hoping there will still be some trees left. The dogs love the forest. Racing through the trees is a highlight. And sometimes they find something that requires an ‘all in’ sniff test. The forest also provides possums. We wouldn’t mind if they all went.

Ted’s team were full throttle, as per usual, on their adventure today. Moose thought he had found a girlfriend. Black Labrador Lizzie, let him know that she was not interested. Lenny and Winston were having a fabulous time playing chase, so he went and joined them. Ted likes to have a go to, but with a few extra kgs than the youngsters, he has to settle for a quick sprint. He reckons the way they quickly change direction while running, isn’t good for his knees. He’s content sniffing and peeing. Ted is a fantastic Captain of this crew.

The Dude’s were embroiled in their usual mayhem today. Billy found a deer leg, right where we parked the van. 🤬 Am thinking of petitioning for the ban of deer stalking, they just can’t dispose of the carcass without making my life difficult 😣. Billy, of course, was rapt with his find. Bear was equally pleased and shadowed Billy, in the hope that he might share, or even drop a tidbit. By the time I managed to wrangle it from Billy, he had gnawed it down to the knuckle. He reckoned he had gotten all the good stuff anyway. I was dreading them discovering the hare co**se I had wedged up a tree earlier. We had to take a zigzag route to bypass all known ‘hazards’. This proved problematic for Loki. He went one way and we went the other. Backtracking, calling and whistling didn’t work. And then around the corner he came, on the lead of the nice lady who found him. She was searching for her dog that had legged it to hunt possums. We traded empathy and then she went back to searching and we headed for the van.

It was a perfect morning for mucking around in the pond. The dogs kept busy chasing a tennis ball 🎾. Molly and Winnie had great fun trying to out run each other. The discovery of a rotting hare was a highlight for some. Wedging it up a tree, so the dogs couldn’t get it, wasn’t easy. The big girls, Goldie and Winnie, have quite the reach. We also have adept climbers. Geri loves a climbing challenge. Anyway, we quickly moved them away, and for once ‘out of sight, out of mind’ was true. Nala had a fun time chasing Jed. He still doesn’t know why he was ‘it’. He loved the attention. We lost both balls, Hera likes to drop them in secret places. She then gets distracted, comes back to the game and wonders why we’re not throwing the ball anymore. It was time to head back to the van. Nancy decided that she could swim the 100m down the pond to catch the ducks. She couldn’t! But she did give an impressive performance. Marathon effort. Geri has decided that the shotgun seat is hers on the way home. Molly the Collie, her adventure friend, has to endure the shenanigans of the larrikins in the back. She could tell some tales, thankfully what goes on tour, stays on tour.

The Hairy Maclary crew were jacketed and ready for action today. They had lots of fun slopping in the puddles. The jackets were needed to keep the mud off their undercarriages. Some intensive hand washing going on tonight I assume.

It was a wet morning. Only mad dog walkers and whitebaiters braving the elements. The dogs didn’t notice. Syd was rapt to find a dead possum. He wasn’t too happy when I flung it up a tree. 😩.
