We’re cheering Lola on! 💙

Lola was brought into Hawke's Bay Urgent Care & After Hours Veterinary Clinic after she was found injured. After further investigation, X-rays revealed a slug pellet lodged near her spine, causing significant spinal trauma and leaving her paralysed in her hind legs.

Lola is now working with The Rehab Vet to support nerve regeneration, manage pain, and give her the best possible chance of recovery.

Lola is one very special little patient ❤️🐾

Lola was brought into Hawke's Bay Urgent Care & After Hours Veterinary Clinic after she was found injured. After further investigation, X-rays revealed a slug pellet lodged near her spine, causing significant spinal trauma and leaving her paralysed in her hind legs.

Last week, Lola visited The Rehab Vet for her initial rehabilitation assessment and received her first acupuncture treatment. The aim is to support nerve regeneration, manage pain, and give her the best possible chance of recovery.

Every recovery starts with a single step—even when that step takes time. We're hopeful that, with dedicated rehabilitation and lots of patience, Lola can continue to make progress.

Meet Whisky — one very lucky dog! 🐕

Whisky was rushed into his regular vet team after being hit by a car at the end of the day. Thankfully, after an emergency assessment and pain relief, his injuries appeared to be isolated to his back leg.

He was transferred into our care for treatment and monitoring overnight. Whisky had a deep wound over his hock that needed a thorough clean and stitches, but thankfully, nothing was broken! *Warning some of the images are graphic*

His family shared: "The after-hours team were great! Mitch spent time with us explaining the plan for treatment and the possible outcomes. He explained that, due to a number of other emergencies arriving, they needed to triage by urgency and Whisky wouldn’t be the first case seen, but assured us they would keep us updated. We were really impressed when the team phoned after 10.30pm with an update on how he was doing.”

Whisky is now back in the care of his regular vet team, who are keeping a close eye on his wound as it heals.

Cases like this are a great example of how vet clinics and our after-hours teams work together to provide top care when our patients need us — even after the clinic doors close. 💚

Tashi had an eventful evening with us after managing to swallow a fish hook!

Fortunately, after being admitted and carefully sedated, our vet was able to locate the hook lodged in the back of his tongue.

With the hook safely removed and just a few small stitches required in his tongue, Tashi was soon awake, comfortable, and ready to head home to his relieved family. ❤️

A reminder for all pet owners to keep fishing gear safely out of reach—our furry friends have a knack for investigating things they shouldn't! 🎣🐶

These two very friendly male dogs were found running down Grays Road onto Heretaunga Street West and are now safe with the HBAH team.

🐶 Both are castrated males
🐶 No microchips found
🐶 Huntaway wearing a harness

Talk about a cute patient! 🐾

Izzy is a patient from September last year, and safe to say she stole a few hearts while she was in with us 💛

This very cute wee pup checked in for some urgent care with our team and was an absolute star — plenty of tail wags, cuddles, and those big puppy-dog eyes that make it hard not to fall in love!

The best part? After about a week of rest and care, Izzy was back to her usual antics at home — just how we like it 👏🐶

🐾 Found Deceased Cat – Charles Street 🐾

A deceased cat has been brought into our clinic after being found on Charles Street, Hastings.

The cat is a silver tabby, male, entire (not desexed), and is not microchipped.

If you believe this may be your cat, please contact our clinic.

Our thoughts are with the owner. 💛

✨ A tricky case with a great outcome for Bella ✨

Bella was brought in to After Hours after becoming very uncomfortable with a sore abdomen and going off her food — something we always take seriously.

Initial blood tests didn’t give us any clear answers, so we dug a little deeper. X-rays revealed something suspicious — a radiopaque structure that raised concern for a possible foreign body.

To confirm, we used ultrasound and located the object in the cranial abdomen… but finding it wasn’t straightforward! After a careful 30-minute search during surgery, we finally discovered the culprit — a small metal wire embedded in her intra-abdominal fat 😮

Thankfully, Bella was an absolute superstar throughout it all 💛 She made a speedy recovery after surgery and was happily reunited with her owner the very next day.

Well done to the team and to Bella for being such a brave girl 🐶✨

A female Shih Tzu was found on Tait Drive, Napier wearing a collar and lead.

She is injured, with a very sore eye.

Unfortunately, she does not appear to be microchipped, so we need your help to find her owner.
