We use our compost mainly for raising seedlings 🌱

Because we’ve been able to build and maintain healthy soil through practices like crop rotation and cover cropping, we don’t need to rely on compost as the main source of fertility for our growing beds.

We’d love to know what would you like to learn more about? Flick your questions in the comments

Did you know we make our own compost?

Here at Earth Stewards, we make our own compost using Biodynamics New Zealand practices.

It’s a simple part of the mahi, but an important part because healthy kai starts with healthy whenua.

Follow along as we share more of what goes into growing our organic kai here in Urban Hamilton, New Zealand.

The Flowform - bringing water back to life

In biodynamic agriculture, a Flowform is more than simply moving water.

It works with the natural rhythm of water, mimicking the meandering, figure-eight movements or lemniscates found in streams.

As the water flows, swirls and aerates, it is gently encouraged back into a more living, rhythmic state.

It’s starting… 🌱

The days are getting brighter a little earlier, and the evenings are feeling just a little warmer.

We’re so excited for what’s to come at Earth Stewards. A new season of growing, learning, sharing and connecting with our community. 💚

If your broccoli has started to open up and a few of the little flower heads are showing yellow, it’s still perfectly good to eat!

🌱 Eat the florets – they’re still delicious and nutritious.
🌼 The flowers are edible too – and can add a lovely little pop of colour to your plate.
🥦 Use the whole plant – stems and leaves can be cooked, roasted, stir-fried or added to soups.
🌍 Less food waste – using what we grow means less food going to waste and more nourishment from every crop.

Broccoli is an ancient Italian flower bud packed with more Vitamin C than an orange. Its name comes from the Italian word broccolo, meaning “the flowering crest of a cabbage” 💚🌱
