We're sorry — entries were playing up this afternoon

If you tried to enter a show between about 3pm and 5.15pm today and the form kept throwing you back to the start, that was us, not you. It's fixed now and entries are working normally again.

What happened: a security update was applied to our server. We don't sit on those — leaving a known security hole open while we wait for a quiet moment isn't a trade we're willing to make with your information, so it went in promptly rather than waiting for the small hours. Normally we wouldn't go near the system during entry hours, and we're sorry it bit this time.

The update quietly changed a setting on the server, and when the website restarted this afternoon it could no longer remember you from one page to the next. That's what made the entry form lose your selections and bounce you back to the beginning — and worse, it stopped the site showing you any message explaining why, which is why it looked like nothing was happening at all.

Nothing was entered and nobody was charged. If you were part-way through an entry, your selections should still be waiting for you when you go back in.

Thanks for your patience — and sorry to those of you who tried over and over.

SIGN IN AND THE SITE NOW WORKS FOR YOU

We've changed what you see when you sign in to EvoEvents.
You used to land on the same list of events as everyone else, with your own information scattered about — what you owe on one page, your entries on another, your times somewhere else again.
Now you land on a page about you.

WHAT YOU OWE. Any entry waiting on payment, with the amount and a Pay now button. Where a show doesn't take online payment, the bank account number is right there, instead of buried in a confirmation email from three weeks ago.

YOUR SHOWS. Everything you're entered in, in one list.

EVENTS YOU ARE INTERESTED IN. Events that you follow are now in their own section on your page.

WHAT YOUR CLUBS ARE SAYING. This is The Loop, and it's new — posts and notices from the clubs and shows you follow, on your own page. Follow a club or an event (there's a Follow button on every event page) and what they post turns up here.

AND ON A DAY YOU'RE COMPETING, a card at the top tells you where you're meant to be and when, along with that show's News Flashes from the morning. You get the card even if the draw isn't out yet — which is usually when you most want to know what's going on.

You can also send a change request straight from that page, on any show you're in, without going off to find the event first.

Nothing's gone — What's on is still there at the bottom, and everything else works as it did.

Young riders can now have their own sign-in

One of the most common things we get asked: "can my daughter log in and see her own times?"

Yes — and you don't have to hand over your account to do it.

If you enter a rider under 18, you can give them a sign-in of their own. They get their own password and can see their entries, their ride times and their results, and read The Loop. You keep the account, you keep the entries and the payments, and you can switch their access off again whenever you like.

HOW: My Account → Linked Accounts → find the rider → "Let them sign in". Takes a minute.

WHAT THEY CAN'T DO: enter events, pay for anything, or see anyone else's entries — including a brother's or sister's on the same account. Entries stay with you, which is how the insurance and the health-and-safety cover work on the day.

IF YOU WANT TO GO A STEP FURTHER, there's a second switch: letting them ask for changes themselves. With it on, they can ask the organiser to scratch a ride or move a class without it coming through you first. You still get a copy of every request — a change to an entry you made always comes to you — and you're still the one responsible for any fee a change brings. It's off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off again the same way.

One thing worth knowing if you have a young rider who's been keen to get online: they don't need to create an account of their own, and shouldn't. A second account starts empty — their results, their horses and the entries you've already paid for all stay on yours — and an entry made with the wrong date of birth can be withdrawn, along with any result that came with it. The sign-in above gives them what they actually want, properly.

Riders turning 18 are a different thing: at that point the whole account can be handed over to them, with everything on it. There's a help page for both.

A quick update, and an apology.

The website was down for a couple of hours this afternoon. It wasn't a hack — nobody got into accounts, and nothing private was touched: no payment details, no contact details, no addresses.

What happened is that the site was hit by a large automated attack. What is happening is that rented cloud servers — thousands of separate addresses — are hammering our results pages all at once and harvesting them. At its peak it was thirty-five times our busiest normal traffic, and it took the site down right when everyone was checking weekend results. We're sorry — the timing could not have been worse.

Everything is back up now, with one change: you need to be signed in to view results. One thing to expect in the meantime. Until we finish the permanent fix, if you're not signed in you won't get a tidy "please sign in" message — you'll get a blunt "service unavailable" error that explains nothing. Sign in and try the link again and it will work. Sorry it's so unhelpful; a proper page is on its way.

Here's why that matters to you. What was being collected wasn't anonymous data — it was riders' names, their horses, and their full competition histories, going back years. Those records belong to you, to the organisers who ran the events, and to EvoEvents. Where we do share data with a partner, it's by agreement and openly. This wasn't that — it was simply taken. Being signed in is how we tell a real rider from a bot, and it's the only thing that reliably stops this. An account is free and takes a minute.

If you ever see EvoEvents results — your own, your horse's, or anyone's — turning up in another app or on another website, please tell us. It genuinely helps.

Entering shows, payments, timetables and event pages were all back up and running as quickly as we could.

Thanks for your patience today.

Thank you — we've been reading everything 🙏

Over the last couple of weeks a lot of you have taken the time to tell us what's working and what isn't, both in the feedback form and in the comments here. We've been through every one of them. Here's what we heard, and what we're doing.

ALREADY FIXED

• Live results weren't updating at some shows — that was a bug at our end, not your show's office. It's fixed. Thank you to everyone who flagged it.

• My Timetable is live — your rides, your times, in one place, so you're not hunting through the draw.

• The back button now keeps your place. Look at someone in the entries, click through to the class, hit back, and you're where you left off instead of at the top.

COMING SOON

The app is close, and it brings the rest of this with it. It's a big piece of work and it all arrives together rather than a bit at a time:

• Favourite shows. The ones you follow sit at the top of your list, so you're not scrolling past everything else to find the ones you actually care about.

• Notifications. The draw is out. Your ring or time has changed. Results are up for your class. The organiser has posted a news flash about the show.

• It keeps working when the signal doesn't. Your entries, your messages, the draw and the timetable stay readable at the venue even with no coverage — and each one tells you how recently it was updated, so you always know what you're looking at.

WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON NEXT

• Finding events in your area. This was the loudest single piece of feedback. The upper/lower North Island split doesn't work if you're in the middle — and plenty of people aren't sure which side they're on. We're making it possible to pick whole islands and more than one region, and to choose more than one discipline at a time.

• Lists on a phone. Several of you told us you used to see a dozen names on a screen and can now see four. Fair. We're working on getting that density back for class lists and results.

• Making things easier to find. A few of the things people asked for already exist — the daily timetable, the full results table, the ability to text your competitors. If you can't find it, that's on us, not you. We're fixing the defaults and the navigation.

A BIT FURTHER OUT

• Better tools for organisers, especially timetabling and the draw. If you run shows, you told us very clearly that this is the worst part of your week. We hear you.

Keep it coming — the specific stuff is the most useful, right down to "this button is in the wrong place".

And to whoever pointed out that we were turning Golden Pāua into Golden P?ua: you're right, and we're sorry. That one's on the list.

🗓 NEW: My Timetable — everything you're on, in one place

Logged in and entered? Open your event and you'll see a new My Timetable tab, right next to My Entries. It pulls every ride you've entered — yours, your kids', every horse — into one list for the day.

WHAT YOU'LL SEE

Your time, when the organisers have drawn one: "8:36 am, Dressage, Arena 5".

A window, when that's all there is: "9:00 am to 12:09 pm". Plenty of classes run to a session rather than a minute, and we'd rather show you the real thing than invent a time.

Where you are in the order, when there's no time at all: "ride 3 of 40". That turns "some time this afternoon" into "not long after the start" — enough to plan a float or a warm-up around.

How the order is decided, in the organiser's own words: "Blackboard — put your name up on the day", "In back-number order". If there's something you need to do on the day, it says so.

And the phase and arena for every ride, so you know where to be, not just when.

THREE WAYS TO READ IT

• By day — the whole family's weekend in one stream. What's happening next.
• By rider — one person at a time. What does this child have to do today?
• By horse — one horse at a time, which is a different job from following a rider.

(The rider and horse views only appear when you've got more than one of either.)

TAKE IT WITH YOU

Tap "Print or save as PDF" and choose how you want it laid out — everything day by day, one section per rider, or one section per horse. It opens as a PDF in a new tab: print it for the truck, or save it to your phone for when the ground has no signal.

ONE IMPORTANT THING

Times only appear once the organisers have published the draw — before that there's nothing to show you, and we won't guess.

And My Timetable is brand new. Always check the event's own timetable on the day, and if what you see here doesn't match it, there's a "tell us" link right on the page. It comes straight to us and we'll fix it. Please use it — we'd much rather hear about something twice than have someone miss a class.

Give it a go at your next event and tell us how it goes. 🐴

📬 All your event emails in one place, instead of scattered through your inbox.

Every email and text a show secretary sends you from the EvoEvents software is kept for you on the site — whether or not it ever reached your inbox.

✉️ My Account → Messages — every show, one list, newest first, with a count of anything you haven't read. The last twelve months.

📋 Each show's own page — just that show's, under My Comms, for when you only want Saturday's times.

Gone to spam, sent to an old address, buried under a thousand other emails, deleted by mistake. Nothing to go searching for. It's right there.

📣 Help us decide what's next — website and app

EvoEvents has been shaped by competitors and organisers telling us what they needed. Recent things that came straight from your feedback:

🔎 Filters that remember what you picked
📋 Choosing how you like results to look by default
👤 Choosing who the entry form opens on, so parents aren't changing it every single time

Now we'd love your help with the next steps — a few months of website work to plan, and an app being built right now. Both wide open.

👉 Two minutes: evoevents.co.nz/feedback

It asks:
🐴 What annoyed you most about the last show you entered?
⭐ The one thing you'd have us build (plus room for the rest of your list)
📱 What you'd want to do from your phone — at the ring, in the truck, one bar of signal
🔔 And which things you'd actually want the app to buzz you about

😤 Website driving you mad? Say so — but tell us which page you were on and what you were trying to do. That we can usually fix within the week. "I don't like the new site" we honestly can't do anything with, and we'd rather fix the thing that caused it.

🗓️ Open until Sunday 27 September — after that we'll be picking.

✅ Every answer gets read, and we'll post back with what we've picked — including what we haven't, and why.

Tell us what to build next on EvoEvents — and what you want in the app.

💳 Did you know? Everything you owe is in one place on EvoEvents

Your My Account dashboard shows what you owe for your upcoming events, and lets you pay it there and then.

(At this stage it only covers events that are still to come. We'll be adding more around this later.)

📱 To find it: on your phone, tap Profile at the bottom of the screen. On a computer, click My Account at the top.

Here's what you might see:

🆕 Part paid — balance owing
Paid for your entry, but a fee was added later, such as an extra yard night or a class change? It now shows here, and you can tap Pay balance to pay online by card, POLi or PayPal. (The payment options depend on what the organiser offers for that event.) You'll get a receipt by email, and it goes straight onto your account with the organiser.

🟡 Entry held — awaiting payment
Your entry is saved, but your place isn't secured until you've paid. If a class fills or entries close before your payment arrives, your entry may not be accepted, so tap Pay now as soon as you can.

🔵 Entry accepted — awaiting payment
You're in. This is what's still due. Tap Pay now.

🛒 Pending carts
Started an entry but didn't finish? It's waiting for you. Tap Review & pay.

❓ Not sure what it's for?
Tap "What's this for?" next to the amount. It lists every fee and every payment for that event from the organiser's own records. If something doesn't look right, you can contact the organiser from the same page.

🏦 Paid by internet banking? The Event Secretary needs to record your payment first, so it may take a little while to clear from your dashboard.

Thanks again to everyone who's sent us feedback. Keep it coming! 🐴
