Welcome to The Balanced Dog, Pippa! Poor Pippa has been intermittently lame since April and I found what appears to be a corn on her left forepaw. I released muscle tension through her traps and triceps, lasered her toes and paw pads, and recommended an Epsom salt soak for her foot. I'll see her again next week to do more with her sore muscles and to review progress. Notes have been sent to her vet for review, too.

Back in July, I posted that I had tested Sox for the gene that is linked to delayed post-operative hemorrhage - a deadly disorder found most commonly in greyhounds and other sight hound breeds. I am glad I did. He came back as a carrier/at-risk dog with one copy of the delayed postoperative hemorrhage mutation. These results are now on file with his vet, Sara at West Vet, should he require surgery. This test is easy to do at home with a cheek swab. Follow link in comments.

My old mate Cooper crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Friday at the amazing age of 15+ (he celebrated #15 on 1st August). Here he is, showing off his beautiful ears whilst sitting in the 'doorstop position.' His Mum and Dad will be missing him, so please share warm thoughts for them as they mourn the little cattle dog saved from an Aboriginal camp in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. A great life.

Regular Saturday session with Scooby today. Most dogs get used to massage on a table quite easily and, in the process, they are learning table handling skills for vet visits. Scooby stepped in something a couple of weeks ago that hardened between his paw pads. Working with rice bran oil, we were able to loosen the debris before cleaning with warm soapy water. A much better angle on a table than on the floor! Then he went outside to recharge in the sun. 🐶
