Lately I’ve seen a lot of comments saying things like:
“It’s a dog, not a robot.”

And they’re right… dogs aren’t robots

But they're wrong to assume training means a dog doesn't have freedom.

Training means a dog has more freedom.

Freedom is an important part of a dogs welfare, doing this responsibily is important too. Training makes this so much easier.

But dont worry.. if your still working on it, there are other options such as..

Long lines
Fenced in feilds
Enclosed dog parks (where appropriate)
Sniff walks and decompression walks

Training isn’t about creating a robot.

It’s about creating a partnership that allows your dog to enjoy more of life with you.

🌸🐾 First Day of Spring – A Message to Our Dog Owners

Spring has officially arrived! 🌱🌼 With warmer weather and longer days ahead, it’s a great time to get out and enjoy our beautiful community with our four-legged friends.

As Animal Control, we’d like to remind all dog owners to help keep our neighbourhoods safe, clean and enjoyable for everyone:

🐕 Please keep dogs under control and make sure they are safely contained at home.

💩 Always pick up after your dog — nobody wants an unexpected springtime surprise on the footpath!

🦮 Remember your lead when visiting areas where dogs are required to be leashed.

🌳 Be mindful of other people, dogs and wildlife as everyone gets out and about more this spring.

🏷️ Check your dog’s registration and contact details are up to date, and make sure their collar/tag information is current.

Spring is a wonderful time to explore, exercise and spend time with our pets. A little consideration from all of us goes a long way towards making our community a happy place for both two- and four-legged residents. ❤️

Located Timaru - Suitable Foster Carer Needed ASAP

Bean is a 3-year-old, 20ish kg female Beardie. She has injured her knee after being caught up in a fence. Likely diagnosis is a cruciate rupture, possible multiple ligaments affected. She will need 3 months of quiet recovery with careful gradual increased activity.

If you have experience with post surgery care & someone home for at least part of the day, please get in touch ASAP. We'll supply food, medical, anything she needs. Ideally Timaru, other options considered. Thank you.

Dog owners wanting to avoid late fees have until the end of August to register their pooches 🐾🐶

Animal Services Manager Lionel Bridger says more than 80 percent of dog owners have already registered their dogs, which is fantastic!

"Reminder notices and text messages have been sent to owners, which has generated a tremendous response, and Council are still working through the responses so please be assured if you have contacted us prior to 31 August, late penalties and the loss of Responsible Dog Owner status will NOT be applied."
