🐾 THE PUPPY YOU CHOOSE BECOMES THE DOG YOU LIVE WITH 🐾
When you apply to adopt a puppy from WAGS, we ask you a lot of questions.
What’s your lifestyle like?
How active are you?
How much time do you have for training?
What’s your home environment like?
Are there children or other animals in the home?
What are you hoping to do with your dog?
And importantly what do you expect life with this puppy to look like when they’re an adult?
We’re not trying to make adoption difficult.
We’re trying to make the right match. ❤️
Because puppies are adorable little bundles of potential but the cute puppy you take home is going to grow into an adult dog with their own energy level, needs, personality and behaviours.
Take three of our WAGS girls as an example…
🐊 COCO our little crocodile
Coco is HIGH energy, incredibly intelligent and always ready to learn.
We believe there is likely some Malinois or German Shepherd in her, and you can certainly see those working-dog traits coming through.
She watches her humans 👀
She looks for direction.
She learns quickly.
And she needs her brain as well as her body kept busy.
That funny little crocodile snapping and crazy puppy play might be cute right now but it won’t be cute coming from a much bigger adult dog.
So Coco is already learning appropriate play, boundaries and how to switch that busy little brain off.
Her future family needs to understand that training isn’t something they’ll do for a few weeks.
It’s part of the commitment to Coco.
☀️ JUNE our lounge lizard
Then there’s our beautiful Junebug.
June is almost the opposite.
Want to go for a walk?
Sure!
Want to meet some people or dogs?
Sounds great!
Want to lie in the sunshine and do absolutely nothing for a while?
Even better. 😂
June enjoys life without needing life to be happening at 100 kilometres an hour.
She’s happy being part of your world and would probably describe a successful afternoon as a nice walk followed by an excellent nap.
🌸 DAISY a little bit of both
Daisy sits somewhere in the middle.
She’s playful, clever, extremely human-focused and absolutely LOVES cuddles.
She’s got some pep in her step and loves playing with other dogs and put her together with a pup like Coco and they’ll happily rark each other up until the energy level goes through the roof. 😂
But Daisy also has that lovely softer side.
She’s probably what we’d describe as a medium-energy puppy.
She’ll still need consistent training, continued socialisation and guidance as she grows so she develops into a confident, well-rounded adult dog.
❤️ And this is exactly why matching matters.
None of these puppies is “better” than another.
They’re simply different.
The perfect home for June may be completely wrong for Coco.
The person who would absolutely thrive with Coco’s intelligence and drive might find June far too cruisy.
And someone wanting a lovely balance of adventure, play and cuddles might find their perfect match in Daisy.
That’s why when someone says:
“I want that puppy!”
our next question isn’t simply:
“When can you pick her up?”
We want to know:
Will this puppy still suit your life in 6 months?
In two years?
In ten years?
Because we’re not matching you with the puppy you see in a photograph today.
🐾 We’re helping you choose the adult dog that puppy is going to become.
And getting that match right is one of the most important things we can do for you AND them. ❤️
Adoption isn’t about finding a puppy that fits your heart for five minutes.
It’s about finding a dog that fits your life for a lifetime.
