Some of you know I used to work at Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust in Christchurch and one of the things that stayed with me the most was the food bank we ran for people struggling to feed their dogs. The relief on people’s faces… the wagging tails… it mattered.

So I’ve decided to start something similar here in Snells Beach.

I’m putting together a community dog food bank, and I’m looking for any short-dated or damaged bags of dog food that businesses might otherwise throw out. These will go straight to families doing it tough... no judgement, just kindness.

If you can donate, share, or connect me with someone who can help, I’d be incredibly grateful.

🌾 Grass Seed Season Is Here Keep Your Dogs Safe! 🌾

Hey lovely whānau, just a quick PSA from your neighbourhood dog-walking mumma! With the warm weather hitting, grass seeds are popping up everywhere, and they can cause some sneaky but serious problems for our pups.

These tiny seeds can:
🐾 Get stuck in paws and cause painful abscesses
🐾 Sneak into ears, eyes, or noses
🐾 Bury themselves under the skin (yes, they travel!)
🐾 Hide in long fur or fluffy tails

What you can do to keep your dog safe:
✔️ Give your dog a quick brush after walks
✔️ Check between their toes, armpits, belly, and ears
✔️ Keep coats trimmed around high-risk areas if they’re long-haired
✔️ If your dog is suddenly shaking their head, licking a paw, or acting “off” — get it checked ASAP

At Wag Well Walks, I’m always keeping an eye out for grass seeds on our adventures. If I spot anything, I let you know straight away so we can avoid bigger issues.

☀️ Summer’s on the way! ☀️

Yesterday was an absolute scorcher... a clear reminder that the warmer months are coming in fast! As most of us know, heat can be dangerous for our furry friends, so I’ll be adjusting my walks as temperatures rise to keep every dog safe and comfortable.

If the temperature creeps above 23°C, I’ll take extra precautions. This might mean a short, gentle walk (if appropriate) followed by some enrichment activities at home, or if it’s simply too hot, a backyard play session with a paddling pool that I’ll have ready in my car.

While your dog might not get as much physical exercise on those hot days, I’ll make sure their time is fun, engaging, and safely enriched in other ways 🐾💦
