One thing I have noticed over the last couple of years, is the increase in rabbits getting fleas.

When I began rescuing rabbits, I rarely saw rabbits with fleas. We would get the odd case of mites, but no fleas.

However, iv been hearing of and seeing more break outs and family’s unable to get on top of it.

We always recommend getting your rabbits a health check if they have fleas or you suspect mites. Rabbits can get fleas if they are already unwell.

Going to your nearest exotic vet is best for peace of mind.

We recommend -

Dr Kezia - Carevets Mt Wellington or
Dr Olivia - Pet Doctors

If they recommend a course of revolution, we have them at a great price!

An order to go out tomorrow with some of our premium Timothy hay.

I Love seeing orders like this. These bunnies clearly get spoiled and live a life full of enrichment! 😍

A question we get asked from time to time is why The Bunny Bach does not support guinea pig shows.

The answer is actually very simple: we do not believe prey animals should be used in this way.

Guinea pigs are naturally nervous prey animals, and we personally do not believe that transporting them into loud, unfamiliar environments, handling them repeatedly, and placing them around large numbers of strangers and animals is fair on them.

Around 3 years ago, we chose to sponsor an entire guinea pig show ourselves. We did this because we wanted to properly understand the environment and see the behind the scenes side before forming a strong opinion.

Unfortunately, during that experience, we raised some welfare concerns that we felt were significant. Those concerns were ignored and left unanswered despite our involvement and sponsorship.

Concerns are one thing. Concerns being dismissed are another.

Because of that experience, and because welfare will always come first for us, it is not something The Bunny Bach chooses to support moving forward.

People are absolutely entitled to their own opinions, but we also believe businesses should be honest about where they stand when it comes to animal welfare.

This is also why our rescue, Raining Rabbits Rescue NZ, does not hold adoption days or bring live animals to public events, and why you will not see live animals being brought into The Bunny Bach store environment either.

Prey animals are not there for entertainment. Most do not enjoy these environments, and we do not believe the stress placed on them is justified.

We’re keen to know what your routine is?

I used to give pellets in morning and greens at night.

But iv since changed to pellets and greens at night so I can set up lots of enrichment for them overnight to keep them entertained.

I place some pellets in a feeding ball, stacking cups and then put some dried forage on a snuffle mat and the fresh greens in a hanging toy so they have to work for their food throughout night.

In the morning I give a treat to ensure all are eating and their normal chirpy selves. And I give some long grass during the day to break up the day.

What’s your routine? Although billie has a broken leg, you wouldn’t know. She does little binkies every time she sees me as she’s knows she’s getting something yummy 😅

Was so great to have Dart back for a groom.
Not really advertising to groom anymore, But happy to take people this way if it helps.

Buns need to be groomed!

Dart is doing so well at grooming himself better now he’s lost some weight and gotten some great pain meds from Dr kezia. He has the best family ensuring he gets the best care.

When you come to me for grooming, I cannot help but give you advice if I think something could help the bun. I weigh them and give them a health check as I would for any bunny under my rescue. I find that families really appreciate this 💛

Dart went off feeling a bit lighter, able to see better, much shorter nails, his scent glands done and a hygiene trim. ✂️ 💅 👁️ 🌹 🪮

Ps. Even Joe had to have a cuddle with this special man 💕
