Yesterday, our CEO Mrs. Victoria Andy delivered the keynote address at the One-Day Capacity Building Workshop on Effective Farm Records Management, organised by the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Service Commission in collaboration with Viconsult Management Services, bringing together Agricultural Officers from all 31 Local Government Areas.

Speaking on “The Role of Agricultural Officers in Monitoring and Evaluation of Agricultural Programmes and Projects for Effective Records Management" she reminded officers that their records are more than paperwork, they're the proof that determines which farmers get seen, which communities get funded, and which programmes get to grow.

Drawing from her own experience with Aviclaire Farms, she shared how consistent tracking of planting cycles, yields, and costs has turned farming from guesswork into strategy, and challenged officers to bring that same discipline to their LGAs.

Her charge to them was simple: document it, measure it, and watch Akwa Ibom's agricultural future become fundable and unstoppable.

We were honoured to welcome the National Council for Local Government Departments of Agriculture (NACOLGDA), Akwa Ibom State, on a courtesy and exploratory visit to Aviclaire Farms.

Our CEO, Mrs. Victoria Andy, alongside other members of the farm’s management team, warmly received the delegation and shared the farm’s journey from it's evolution as a demonstration farm to where we stand today, highlighting the critical role of agriculture in food security and the urgent need to embrace climate-smart farming practices.

The delegation proceeded on a guided farm tour, witnessing firsthand what intentional and forward-thinking agriculture looks like on the ground.

We were especially delighted by the kind words of the Chairman, Pastor Lucy Isong, who expressed her satisfaction and appreciation for what Aviclaire Farms represents.

Why does our tomato farm look like this? Let us explain.

If you’ve seen our open field plantation at AviClaire Farms and noticed the black plastic sheeting running along the beds that’s plastic mulch, and it’s one of the best decisions we’ve made on this farm.

Why we adopted it:
W**d pressure in open field tomato farming is brutal. Without proper ground cover, you’re constantly battling w**ds that compete with your plants for nutrients and water. We needed a solution that was practical, scalable, and effective and plastic mulch delivered exactly that.

Here’s what it’s doing for our tomatoes:
🌿 Suppresses w**ds almost completely slashing labour costs and keeping our beds clean.

💧 Retains soil moisture so that our plants stay hydrated and stress-free between irrigation cycles.

🌡️ Regulates soil temperature keeping root zones stable for stronger, healthier plants

🍅 Keeps fruits off the soil to reduce rot and protecting quality from field to market.

🐛 Reduces soil-borne pest and disease pressure less intervention, better outcomes.

At AviClaire Farms, one of our core reasons for existing is exploration and Experimentation-trying crops that have rarely, if ever, been attempted in the South, and learning what this land is truly capable of.

Ginger is one of those experiments.

Most people assumed it simply wouldn’t work down here. But we planted it anyway, tended to it carefully, and watched it grow into something beautiful. From the first planting to harvest, every stage taught us something new and the yields have been impressive, to say the least.

Rich, aromatic, and grown right here in the South. This is what happens when you give the land a chance to surprise you.

We’re sharing this because we believe knowledge should be passed on. If ginger can thrive here, the possibilities for what else we can grow are wide open and we’re excited to keep exploring.
