From runner-up to World Champion. 🔥🔨

After finishing second at Spruce Meadows in 2025, 23-year-old Troy Wood of the USA returned to Calgary and went one better, claiming the 2026 Blacksmith World Championships title and the $75,000 top prize.

Wood began blacksmithing at just 16 years old, and this year marked his fourth time competing at Spruce Meadows. After five days of forging, shoeing, speed and precision against some of the best farriers in the world, he leaves the ‘Masters’ as Champion.

Congratulations to the 2026 Top 5:

🥇 Troy Wood 🇺🇸
🥈 Gavine Cooper 🇺🇸
🥉 Chris Madrid 🇺🇸
4️⃣ Vincent Lamaille 🇧🇪
5️⃣ Matt Findler 🇨🇦

And to every blacksmith who travelled from around the world to compete with us this year, thank you for being part of the 2026 ‘Masters’ and for bringing five incredible days of skill, craftsmanship and competition to Spruce Meadows.

🐴 Hello, AFA! 🐴

I’m thrilled to be joining the American Farriers Association as your new Communications Admin!

I’ll be your go-to for membership questions, benefits, and chapter support, while also helping bring AFA’s social media and content to life.

A little about me—I’m a lifelong horse owner, Sweet Briar College ’23 graduate, and have experience working both alongside farriers in the barn and behind the scenes in equine office settings. Now, I’m lucky to call the heart of the Bluegrass home with my husband, three dogs, and two horses!

I’m excited to connect with AFA members across the country and hear from YOU. Have an idea, a story to share, or just want to say hello? Reach out!

✨🐴 I can’t wait to see what we create together! 🐴

Yeeeeesssssss!!!!

Flare is never good for the horse. This is why we recommend weekly trims! The hoof walls need to have an anatomically correct height, length and shape which is maintained by frequent trims. Otherwise, damage can occur.
