They’re here! Ok, technically they’ve been here. We were away on vacation when a family friend who was checking on animals messaged me on August 2nd to let me know we had babies. Given how things looked in the pictures I received, I’m guessing they were born late on July 31, after our “pet sitter” had left. So, what to do when you’re 1200 miles away and have a fresh litter? I let mom and babies do their thing. The babies dug in under the RHP and would occasionally come out for water or to check out their surroundings. Mom, who hasn’t eaten in 6ish months, didn’t bother them at all. I just pulled them today (August 10) and fed mom. There’s 12 total and they’re HUGE…and snappy, very snappy! Given what happened with last year’s Dumeril’s litter, I’m beyond thrilled right now. Did I mention they’re huge?

It’s been a little quiet on the page because we were away on vacation! Going to get caught up over the next couple of days AND we have another birth announcement that I’ll post today or tomorrow. In the mean time, enjoy this absolute unit of a Rhino Iguana we saw at Animal Kingdom.

The midget. This animal is the complete opposite from the rest of the litter and I’m really hoping it grows into a healthy adult, I can’t imagine how it will.

Sent this beautiful male out to Frank in VA today. He’s coloring up really nice with pink along his sides and that buckskin color along his back. Great tail and nice saddles on him too.

This Dumerils boa is driving me nuts. I thought she was going to drop late last week, but she’s still holding the babies hostage.

Zombie eyes! That means these 5 day old babies will be having their first sheds soon. So what’s next? I’ll be separating the group into their own enclosures and once they’ve shed they’ll be offered food for the first time. Can’t say it enough, I love working with these boas.

I love these animals, but these things can eat you outta house and home. Later this year I’m planning to do a serious upgrade to their enclosures once I figure out more efficient heating for large enclosures. It’s a project I’m really looking forward to.

These babies are so dark, they’re difficult to photograph. A few, such as 10, have almost black patterning, but it’s really a very dark caramel color.
