Fostering or Just Found Kittens? 𝐋𝐞𝐭’𝐬 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠.

We highly recommend crating any new kittens you bring into your home and here’s why:

👉 𝐈𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.
New kittens, especially those found outside, are vulnerable. A crate gives them a safe space to decompress without a bunch of places to hide. 𝙄𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪’𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙧𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙚 𝙖 𝙠𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝙞𝙨 𝙠𝙚𝙮 🔑.

👉 𝐈𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐬.
You don’t know what these kittens may be carrying—GI bugs, parasites, upper respiratory infections, you name it. A proper two-week quarantine is a must, and crating helps you manage it responsibly.

👉 𝐈𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞 (𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲).
Let’s be real: nobody wants diarrhea surprises all over their floors or furniture. Crating makes cleanup easier, especially during deworming and medical observation.

Our Go-To Setup 🐾
This example features a three-level cage, but an extra-large dog crate works just as well! Here’s what you’ll need:

✅ Fresh food and water available at all times
✅ A few toys for stimulation
✅ A comfy bed or blanket for cozy cat naps
✅ A litter box, we love pine pellets, especially for tiny, messy babies

Four years ago, we knew three things:
𝙁𝙧𝙚𝙚-𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙥.
𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩.
𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙡𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙛.

What we didn’t know was how many people in our community would eventually join us in becoming part of the solution.

Last night, we were featured on the news. And while it’s pretty surreal to see free-roaming cats on television, what matters most is that more people are hearing the message.

Because 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗡𝗩𝗥 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿.
𝗔 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱.
𝗔 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿.
𝗔 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽.

Because while filling a food bowl may ease hunger today, it doesn’t stop the cycle tomorrow.

😿The kittens keep coming.
😿The suffering continues.
😿And shelters remain overwhelmed.

𝐓𝐍𝐕𝐑 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠-𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧.

That’s why we’ve spent the last four years doing more than trapping cats.

✅We’ve spent four years educating.
✅Building partnerships.
✅Supporting caregivers.
✅Training community members.
✅And proving that ordinary people can make an extraordinary impact when they work together.

𝗣𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗮 “𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻” 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 and now you’re noticing a bald spot?

Maybe it’s flaky.
Maybe it’s crusty.
Maybe it’s spreading.

You might be dealing with ringworm 🪱.
And despite the name… it’s not a worm at all.

Ringworm is a fungal infection that’s extremely common in kittens, especially kittens born outside, living in colonies, or coming from overcrowded environments.

Signs can include:
⚠️Circular patches of hair loss
⚠️ Flaky or crusty skin
⚠️ Broken hairs
⚠️ Itching
⚠️ Bald spots on the face, ears, paws, or tail
⚠️ Often glows under a black light (but not always)

The good news?
✅ It’s treatable.

The less good news?
😬 It’s contagious to other pets AND people.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝘆:
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻.

💰 Treatment for your other pets

💰 Spay & Neuter surgery unless you want 40 more cats

And while shelters and rescues aren’t perfect, animals coming through those programs are often examined, monitored, and treated before going home. Someone is looking for these issues before they become your issue.

Some of y’all aren’t gonna like this one…
But 𝙬𝙚’𝙧𝙚 𝙜𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙖 𝙨𝙖𝙮 𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙮𝙬𝙖𝙮.

There seems to be a belief floating around that responsible trapping means hovering over a trap the entire time.

Sounds great on Facebook.
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁.

❌If we stood near every trap for hours, a lot of cats would 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲.

Some cats are incredibly cautious.
Some trapping locations make that impossible.
And if you’ve ever trapped before, you know cats have a remarkable ability to wait until the exact second you look away. 😅

So yes…we leave traps.

But let’s talk about what that actually means.
𝗜𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆.

It means:
✅Cellular trail cameras
✅Caregivers monitoring the property
✅Constant communication
✅Strategic trap placement
✅Safe trapping environments
✅Prompt response when a cat is trapped

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝘂𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴.

The goal isn’t pleasing the internet.
The goal is getting cats fixed.

Today, a group of “FIV-positive” kittens got rescue commitment thanks to a partnership between Union County Animal Services and Junior’s Fund.

And 𝙮𝙚𝙨, 𝙬𝙚 𝙥𝙪𝙩 𝙁𝙄𝙑-𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙦𝙪𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣.

Many people hear “FIV positive” and immediately assume it’s game over 🎮❌.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗲.

But here’s another fact many people don’t know:
Even cats that are 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙡𝙮 𝙁𝙄𝙑-𝙥𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜, 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮, 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨.

𝗙𝗜𝗩 (𝗙𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗩𝗶𝗿𝘂𝘀) is often misunderstood. It is not spread through casual contact like sharing food bowls, water bowls, grooming, or simply living together. It is most commonly transmitted through deep bite wounds.

𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗙𝗜𝗩-𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗙𝗜𝗩-𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

A positive FIV test is not a death sentence.

👏🏼That’s why education matters.
👏🏼That’s why rescue partnerships matter.
👏🏼And that’s why today’s outcome matters.

Instead of making assumptions, people stepped up.

Instead of letting a test result define their future, people gave them time.
And 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

This is what happens when people stop talking about the problem and start becoming part of the solution.
