Frustrated, overaroused, and perhaps a little bit rude 😉😉

Charlie had spent the first few months of his life with constant access to alot of dogs, so once he found his forever home he already had some frustration based habits that made walks chaotic for him and his mum, especially if other dogs were around.

But, with some dog training ground rules and skills and alot of hard work and commitment from mum, Charlie is well on his way to being the bestest of boys, no matter the distraction 💕💕

When you have a reactive dog, it feels like it'll never change. It's overwhelming and you grieve the life you thought you'd have with your dog.

Trust me, I know because I was right there too 💖

But reactivity isn't the end.

If my Casper is proof of anything, it's that even 6 years of ingrained reactive habits can be overcome and you can love your life with your dog again 💖💖💖

This is exactly why I'm here, doing what I do.

I want to help people feel what I felt the first time I watched my reactive dog run offlead, when he had his first ever pup cup at 6 years old, and when I didn't have to scan the environment just to get him from my front door to my car 🤦‍♀️

Reactivity In Dogs doesn't always look like aggression, sometimes it's also:

🐕 Excitement
🐕 Suspicion
🐕 Fear
🐕 Reinforced Behaviour

Reactivity can feel overwhelming and sometimes even soul destroying when you feel like you're grieving the dog you hoped for.

What do you think about retractable leads?

Other things to think of when using a retractable:

🐕 Make sure there's no fraying or tearing on the lead
🐕 pick one with the right weight on it. No point using a retractable for a 40kg dog that can only be safely used up to 5kg
🐕 Make sure you have the hand strength to hold one
🐕 Be confident your dog won't spook if you drop the handle and it bounces along behind them
