Just like us, horses can carry stress in different ways. Some become tense, spooky, reactive, or unable to switch off. Others become withdrawn, worried, or unsettled.
In this recent case, my focus wasn't simply on calming the horse. I looked at the whole picture starting with the diet. Good-quality forage, balanced nutrition, and meeting the horse's individual nutritional needs are the foundation of health. If those basics aren't in place, herbs can only do so much.
Once that foundation was addressed, I chose herbs to gently support the nervous system. In this case, herbs such as chamomile, lemon balm and skullcap were part of the blend to help promote relaxation, ease tension, and encourage a greater sense of balance.
