There is a quiet magic in the making.

It’s more than mixing ingredients. It’s alchemy.

Taking the humble, resilient Plantain—the guardian of the field—and awakening its power to draw out, soothe, and mend.

Uniting it with the serene spirit of Lavender—a whisper of calm for frayed nerves and a fierce cleanser for skin.

And weaving in the gentle, solar warmth of Chamomile—the nurturer, the tone-setter, the soother of hot, itchy flares.

Together, in precise measure and with patient intention, they transcend their individual virtues. They become something new: a synergy of healing, a balm with purpose.

This is the heart of our craft. 🤍💚🤍

Every batch is blended not just for potency, but for poetry.
For the horse whose skin tells a story of mud, flies, scrapes, and glory. For the caretaker who believes in clean, kind, and profoundly effective care.

This is herbal alchemy. This is medicine made with love.

🌼 Chamomile – The Soothing Skin-Toner

Gentle Eye & Mucous Membrane Wash: A cool, strained chamomile tea is incredibly safe and soothing for wiping a muddy face, cleaning around the eyes, or as a gentle wash for sheath/udder areas.

It's anti-inflammatory and calming for sensitive skin.

Healing Rinses for Hot or Inflamed Skin: For general skin irritation, sunburn, or post-bathing rinse on a clipped horse with sensitive skin, chamomile tea provides a soothing, anti-itch treatment. It's excellent for calming allergic skin flares.

Hoof and Frog Health: As an antibacterial and antifungal wash, it can be used in foot soaks or applied to thrushy frogs to clean and promote healing without being overly drying or caustic.

💜 Lavender – The Calming Cleaner

Wound Care & Scarring: Lavender essential oil (highly diluted in a carrier oil) is one of the few that can be applied neat to small wounds in a pinch (though dilution is always best practice).
It's strongly antiseptic, promotes clean healing, and is believed to reduce scar tissue formation.
It's fantastic for cleaning minor cuts and abrasions.

Bug Repellent Base: Its strong scent, while calming to the nervous system, is detested by many flies and insects. It’s a common ingredient in our natural fly spray recipe, providing a soothing, repellent effect without harsh chemicals.

Anti-Fungal Ally: Lavender's properties help combat fungal issues like rain rot or mild scratches when used in a wash or diluted oil blend. It helps dry damp, infected skin while promoting healing.

🌿 Plantain – The Field-Dressing Pro

Plantain is the go-to for any puncture, sting, cut, or bruise, especially in those muddy, hard-to-keep-clean areas like pasterns and coronet bands. Its drawing power is legendary for treating abscesses (as a poultice), embedded thorns, or bee stings.

Anti-Itch & Allure-Relief: Its cooling, soothing properties make it excellent for taking the heat and itch out of bug bites, minor allergic reactions, or hot spots. A strong plantain tea as a wash can provide immediate relief.

Practical Magic: You can literally pick it from the pasture (if clean), chew it into a "spit poultice" in a true field emergency, and apply it directly to a wound. It’s the ultimate in immediate, no-fuss, antimicrobial first aid.

It begins long before the jar is filled. ✨

My process of creating herb-infused oils is a slow, intentional dance with nature. It’s not just a recipe; it’s a ritual of connection.

🌿 STEP 1: SOURCING WITH INTENTION
Every bottle starts with a relationship. I either forage wild herbs (like plantain or yarrow) from clean, untouched meadows, honouring the plant by taking only what I need and giving thanks. Or, I source mindfully from local organic growers whose practices I know and trust. This step is about respect—for the land, the plant’s spirit, and the final product.

🔥 STEP 2: THE PATIENCE OF PREPARATION
The herbs are gently cleaned and fully dried—a crucial step to prevent spoilage. This is where patience is first learned. Once ready, they are carefully packed into sterile jars.

☀️ STEP 3: THE INFUSION: SUN OR HEAT?
Here, intention meets alchemy.

Solar Infusion: For delicate herbs like calendula or St. John’s Wort, I choose the sun’s gentle power. Jars are covered with oil and left on a sunny windowsill for 4-6 weeks. It’s a slow, cosmic cookery, where the oil gradually absorbs the plant’s essence, its colour, and its subtle energetic properties.
Heat Infusion: For roots or barks, I use a gentle double-boiler method. A low, steady heat over several hours coaxes out the deeper, more resinous medicinal compounds. It’s a more focused, earthy process.
Both methods require vigilance and trust. I shake the jars daily, a small meditation, and watch as the oil transforms into a luminous, herbal gold.

Finally, the oil is strained through muslin, capturing every precious drop. What remains is a potent, plant-powered essence—a captured piece of summer sunshine or hearth warmth, ready to nourish skin or support the body.

This is medicine made slowly, with your hands and your heart. 💚
