Dog grooming classified as non-essential so no VAT redirection… tell that to roughly 500,000 dog owners whose dogs have continuous grow coats!
You might have seen in the news today that hairdressers and barbers are celebrating a well-deserved reduction in their VAT rates. While we are genuinely thrilled for our friends in the human hair industry, i wanted to make sure everyone knows that this does NOT include us Groomers and Stylists.
Despite doing a very similar job—just with a lot more wiggling! 😄 —dog grooming is still classified under the standard 23% VAT rate.
Why this matters:
As small businesses, we face the exact same rising costs for electricity, specialised equipment, shampoo, and training. However, we still have to absorb or pass on that heavy 23% tax burden, while human salons get a financial breather.
We love what we do, and we love pampering your pups. It is essential! We will always fight to keep our prices as fair and competitive as possible while maintaining the highest standards of safety and care for your fur babies.
Hopefully we can make a change by spreading the word that we deserve this reduction also.
