Let talk about hair length!⬇️
Finding a length that suits you and your dog’s lifestyle can be difficult.
Many things like age, medication, environment and even hormones can affect your dogs hair growth & texture.
Grooming blades have guards built into them with various lengths to cut the hair.
Guard combs are attachments that can cut much less of your dogs hair. If you ever ask for “just a trim all over” and insist on no shaving, I hate to break it to you but an even all over cut in a pet salon is often achieved with guard combs!😱So yes your dog is getting shaved, just not as short as you’re thinking 😅
Blades come in various lengths, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10 are the most common sizes kept in salons. 3 being the longest and 10 being the shortest (so it’s opposite to the barbers)
Your hair length can be determined by the breed, so it’s often best to talk to your groomer about what they recommend. For example, some breeds can’t be shaved as the hair could change completely or not grow back and then other breeds are recommended to be shaved often to prevent matting.
Hand sc******ng a dog is possible but for certain breeds like bichons and poodles it’s much more efficient to go with a long guard comb😁
As always, send me a text if you have any questions!
