Government Consultation on Fireworks – Make a welfare difference BY WEDNESDAY NIGHT

The current Government Consultation on Fireworks and Pyrotechnics in the UK ends on Wednesday 7th October.

If you have an opinion on fireworks and the negative welfare impact they have on pets, wildlife and people (e.g. those with PTSD), now is your chance to have a say.

A quick response form you may find useful is available here: https://protectthewild.org.uk/fireworks-consultation/

However, the main consultation can be found here https://ditresearch.eu.qualtrics.com/.../SV_eg0jcixPsRnv1NY

The consultation asks
A. whether the maximum noise level for fireworks for sale should be lowered and
B. whether louder fireworks should be restricted to professional users (e.g. public displays).

Today is a day of mixed emotions.

I'm so happy for all the students that are graduating from ARU Writtle today. Particularly those BSc Animal Science/Management students on the Pet Behaviour and Welfare pathway, whom I've worked with closely both in lessons and in their clinical placement; watching your development over the last three years has been an absolute pleasure.

So whilst I'm filled with pride and happiness as you embark on the next stage of your journey, I'm also sad to see you go, and even sadder that I can't make it to the ceremony today to see you graduate. I hope to see you in the afternoon to congratulate you in person, but if I don't see you, please enjoy your day and be proud of what you have achieved.

Please keep in touch, we love to hear about all the wonderful things our students go on to do.

Congratulations from Debbie, Sharon, Ava, Connie, Tom and all the clients and pets at the ARU Writtle Pet Behaviour Clinic.

Back in March, ARU Writtle played host to the filming of a documentary exploring the UK’s 2024 ban on XL Bully dogs, through the voices of victims, dog owners, behaviour experts and those working on the frontline. Jane Williams, a local Clinical Animal Behaviourist and trustee of the Animal Behaviour and Training Council, was one of the experts filmed by Ruby Roose, a journalism student from the university of Leeds and creator of this documentary. The backdrop of filiming this interview was our students training staff dogs in the facilities of our ARU Writtle Pet Behaviour Clinic facilities. You can watch the rest of the documentary from this link:https://youtu.be/YcoSnNweRxQ?is=WbLrcRGwkIAf7gg3
