After my cats diagnosis and surgery, thought I’d talk a little about FLUTD.

🐾 FLUTD / FIC in Cats – Important Health Information 🐾

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD), including Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC), is a common condition affecting the bladder and lower urinary tract in cats.

Clinical signs may include:
• Straining to urinate
• Frequent visits to the litter tray
• Passing small amounts of urine or inappropriate urination
• Vocalisation or signs of discomfort
• Blood in urine

⚠️ In male cats, urinary obstruction can develop rapidly and is a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate veterinary attention.

In cases of FIC, no underlying infection or urinary stones are identified. Current evidence suggests a strong link between environmental stress, hydration status, and routine disruption.

Supportive management may include:
• Increased water intake (wet diets, water fountains, additional hydration support)
• Environmental enrichment and stress reduction
• Consistent routines and appropriate litter tray provision
• Veterinary-directed pain relief and dietary management where indicated

Early recognition and prompt veterinary assessment are essential for a positive outcome.
