There’s something particularly special about seeing a pony sold through our Worcester sale ring go on to achieve great things — both in the show ring and, more importantly, in the hearts of her new family.

Musselbrough Mayday was purchased at the Worcester Shetland Pony Sale in 2022, offered for sale by Mr J. Watson.

She had already made her mark before entering the sale ring, taking Supreme of Show at the pre-sale show — although she certainly made her handler work for the title! Full of character and far from straightforward, Mayday was one of those ponies who demanded attention and one purchaser saw something special in her.

Four years on, that decision has proved to be an inspired one.

🏆 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 Shetland at North & Mid Wales
🏆 𝟓𝐭𝐡 at the Royal Windsor Horse Show — remarkably, the only home-produced pony in the top six
🏆 𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 across the country

But this is about far more than rosettes.

Mayday has become a much-loved member of the family who purchased her that day in Worcester — a genuine mare who has helped make dreams come true and, in their words, one of the best decisions they could have made.

For us at McCartneys LLP, stories like Mayday’s are what make our sales so rewarding.

A moment in the sale ring can be the beginning of something extraordinary.

From catching the eye of her new owners at Worcester in 2022, to competing on some of the country’s biggest stages, Musselbrough Mayday is a wonderful example of just how far the right partnership can go.

She arrived at Worcester with plenty of character.
She left with a new owner.

And she found her forever home. ❤️🐴

Sold at Worcester. Proven in the ring. Treasured at home.

That’s a success story we’re very proud to share. 🏆

🌟 𝐒𝐀𝐋𝐄 𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖 𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆 | 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐏𝐓𝐎𝐑 𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐆𝐈𝐋 🌟

We love hearing where the ponies sold through McCartneys Equine go on to — and Sharptor Virgil is certainly a success story worth sharing.

Purchased at the 2025 SPSBS Shetland Pony Sale at Worcester, Sharptor Virgil was offered for sale by Mr J. Walters of the Sharptor Stud and caught the eye of his new owner, who hadn't actually arrived at Worcester looking for a Standard Shetland stallion!

With the Waddesdon Stud predominantly based around Miniatures, Sharptor Virgil was an unexpected purchase. But after spotting him, his new owner ran back to the ring and was delighted to secure him — beginning a new chapter for both Virgil and the stud.

Initially a shy character, Sharptor Virgil soon formed a wonderful bond with his new owner and, despite never having been shown before, wasted no time making his mark in the show ring.

🏆 His 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 highlights included:
• Shetland Breed Champion & Overall Supreme of Show — Thames Valley Native Show
• Breed Champion — Midland Counties
• Reserve Breed Champion — Nottinghamshire County Show
• A very respectable 2nd at The Royal Welsh Show against seasoned Shetland stallions

And the success hasn't stopped there.

⭐ In 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, Sharptor Virgil remains unbeaten, taking Breed Champion at Nottinghamshire County Show before going on to his most recent success at The Miniature Horse of the Year Show, where he was crowned Breed Champion, Shetland Pony of the Year and Reserve Supreme of Show.

His owner says:
“Sharptor Virgil has exceeded all my expectations and has become a very special part of the Waddesdon Stud.”

Sharptor Virgil has also been busy on covering duties this year, so perhaps the story will come full circle, with some of his exciting offspring making their way to Worcester in the future.

From an unexpected purchase in the Worcester sale ring to an unbeaten season and Shetland Pony of the Year — what a journey. 🐴🏆

Congratulations to Sharptor Virgil, his connections and everyone who has played a part in his story. We’re delighted that McCartneys Equine Worcester Shetland Sale was where this exciting partnership began.

Bought at Worcester. Making his mark in the show ring. A success story we're proud to share.
