An invite to lunch… or so I thought! 😄

When your husband says, “Meet me for lunch and bring the two youngsters,” you naturally picture somewhere like a nice café at Woodbridge Harbour.

Instead, I collected him from the office and we headed to The Deben Dog Hub - Woodbridge Off Lead Dog Field, a secure dog field you can hire down by the harbour.

It turned out to be a brilliant surprise. The field had a great range of agility equipment, a scent wall, and plenty of space to play “find it”. Pepper and Tali had an absolutely wonderful time exploring, sniffing, and enjoying themselves.

And after all that fun, we did get our lunch, a delicious one at The Tea Hut, right by the water.

Sometimes the best lunches aren’t the ones you expect. Watching happy dogs having fun in a safe, secure space was time well spent. We will be back, but maybe late evening so we can enjoy the ambiance of Woodbridge a bit more.

I have a lot of time for Pamela who runs Impackt Behaviour, always great advice especially when it comes to socialising dogs! She is worth following 👍😊

Want to know The biggest cause of reactivity I see?
Allowing dogs to interact on lead!
Especially when it’s done as a puppy in classes! You’re pretty much teaching them to be reactive!!!!
Letting and encouraging your pup to go up in front of you on lead and boop noses with the other pup!
Then after 3 seconds pull them away!

Dogs don’t meet face to face in straight lines naturally - we are forcing a human”shaking hands” situation here - it’s as unnatural and uncomfortable for dogs as it would be for humans to greet by sniffing each others bums!!! Imagine it!

All their beautiful natural body language is restricted and prevented and they’re thrust into each others faces then pulled away!

🛑It builds frustration!
🛑It creates reactivity!

Owners moan they have no neutrality and no focus from their dog on lead but they allow their dog to approach and interact with dogs when they’re on lead so you have to expect that dog to be looking for dogs to interact with and pulling towards them to say hi
Because that’s what you’ve trained them to do!!!

Remember to pick and hand feed your dog the blackberries that are at the top of the field 😆 …. they can then sleep it off on the hammock ☺️😴

Absolutely delighted to report that the bird boxes that Suffolk Bird Group/RSPB put up in The Deben Dog Hub last year has provided a home for a family of Spotted Flycatchers! Quite a rare sight 😁
