I’ve got some really lovely news to share…

I’ve been **nominated for TWO Pet Industry Business Awards** — **Best Dog Trainer** AND **Best Dog Behaviourist**. 🐾🏆

And honestly… it means more to me than I can put into words.

I have no idea who nominated me, but if you’re the person who took the time to put my name forward, **thank you.** ❤️

When you work for yourself, you don’t always know whether what you’re doing is making the difference you hope it is.

But then you get a message from an owner who tells you they enjoyed a walk with their dog for the first time in months.

Or someone tells you their dog is finally feeling more confident.

Or an owner who was completely overwhelmed tells you they finally feel like they understand their dog.

Those are the moments that remind me exactly why I do this.❤️

So to be nominated for these awards by someone who feels I deserve to be recognised is incredibly special.

But I need your help! 🐶❤️

To make it through to the finalist stage, I need more nominations.

If you feel I’ve helped you and your dog, supported you through a difficult time, taught you something, given you hope, or simply made life with your dog a little easier, I would be so grateful if you could nominate me.

You can nominate me for both categories:

🐾 **Best Dog Trainer**
🐾 **Best Dog Behaviourist**

**Nominations close 31st August!**

👉 Go to **piba.co.uk/nominate**

There isn't a search facility, so you'll need to enter my details manually:

Business name: Janine White Dog Behaviour

It only takes a couple of minutes, but it could mean an enormous amount to me. ❤️

And if you do nominate me, **please let me know!** I’d genuinely love to know who is behind the nominations that have already made my week. 🥹

Thank you, as always, for supporting my little business and allowing me to do a job that I absolutely love. 🐾❤️

Now… let's see if we can get Janine White Dog Behaviour into the finals! 🏆

I’ve got to admit, this is my first time working with a Samoyed… but WOW, is Darcy handsome! 😍🐾

It’s definitely not my first time working with separation issues though, so be prepared, young man… I’m on your case now! 🤣

Looking forward to helping Darcy and his owner understand his separation difficulties and, most importantly, helping him feel more comfortable and confident when he’s on his own. ❤️

Let’s get to work, Darcy! 🐾💪

🐾 Your dog isn’t trying to be difficult… they’re trying to communicate 🐾

We are still seeing a situation where people contact me after having already seen other trainers who have promised them a “cure” for their dog’s unwanted behaviours.

But behaviour is communication.

When a dog is in pain, unwell, scared, overwhelmed or feeling vulnerable, adding more fear or discomfort does not fix the problem. It can make them shut down, increase their anxiety, or teach them that the things they are worried about really are something to fear.

Dogs don’t wake up one morning thinking:

"Today I’m going to be the boss."

They might wake up with aches and pains though, and not want an over-excited dog charging towards them wanting to play.

They don’t wake up thinking:

"I’m going to p*e all over the house to show my dominance."

They might wake up with a UTI, discomfort, or an illness that means they simply can’t hold it like they normally would.

They don’t wake up thinking:

"That dog scared me yesterday, so today I’m going to scare them back."

They might remember that when that dog was nearby last time, something frightening happened — a loud bang, a scary experience, or their owners becoming worried — and they’re trying to create distance to stop it happening again.

This is why understanding the **why** behind behaviour matters.

Adding a shock collar, pain or punishment to these situations doesn’t solve the underlying issue.

It can increase fear in a dog who needs confidence building.

It can make a dog hide signs of pain that need veterinary support.

It can make a dog hide toileting accidents instead of showing us they need help.

Our dogs are not trying to be “naughty”. They are communicating with the only tools they have — their behaviour.

Before we ask "How do we stop this?”we should always ask:

“Why is my dog doing this?”❤️

Because when we understand the reason, we can help the dog — not just suppress the behaviour.

P.s. I have borrowed this image from Dog Centred Care. I couldn't share the whole post but felt it was a perfect image

Why "Board & Train" Camps are a High-Risk Gamble – and What We Do Differently

🐾Sending your dog away to be "fixed" at a Board and Train facility sounds tempting, but behind closed doors, this unregulated industry carries massive risks.

⚠️ The Hidden Risks:

Zero Regulation: Anyone can call themselves a trainer and take your pet away with no legal credentials.

Fear & Coercion: Many camps use harsh, aversive tools to force quick fixes. This suppresses behavior through shock and terror, leaving dogs psychologically shut down.

The Home Relapse: Dogs learn contextually. Without you there, the training frequently collapses the moment they return home.

⚖️ The Hard Evidence (Recent UK Convictions):

James Fullwood (2026): Criminally convicted and sentenced after using "significant force" that killed a young dog in his care.

Charlotte Sutton (2026): Sentenced to prison for causing unnecessary suffering after a client's dog died of heatstroke during a heatwave.

Rebecca Perkins (2023): Jailed for 36 weeks and banned from owning animals for life after severe neglect and starvation were uncovered at her facility.

Your dog shouldn't have to suffer to learn. You should never have to wonder what happens to them when you aren't looking.

We're well into the summer holidays...

The kids are off school.
The routine has disappeared.
The dog is excited... or overwhelmed.
Visitors are coming and going.
Walks are happening at different times.
The house is noisier than usual.

Maybe you've brought home a new puppy and you're counting down the days until those vaccinations are complete because you're feeling stuck at home.

Or perhaps your older dog is struggling with all the extra activity and you're wondering...

**"When will life feel calm again?"**

If you're feeling overwhelmed, I want you to know you're not alone.

Summer can be a wonderful time, but it can also be challenging for our dogs. Changes to routine, extra excitement, less sleep and lots of new experiences can leave them feeling over-aroused, anxious or simply exhausted.

The good news? There are lots of simple things we can do to help.

Whether you need support with:
🐾 A new puppy
🐾 Safe socialisation
🐾 Reactive walks
🐾 Separation anxiety
🐾 Barking and overexcitement
🐾 Confidence building
🐾 Loose lead walking
🐾 Recall
🐾 Training walks
🐾 Or you're just wondering if what you're seeing is "normal"...

I'm here to help.

Small changes can make a huge difference, helping you and your dog enjoy the rest of the summer together.

So tell me... how are the holidays going with your dog? I'd love to hear how you're getting on. 💙

Today I had the pleasure of meeting the very handsome 11-year-old Hunter as we started his separation anxiety journey together. ❤️

At 11 years old, you might think a dog is "set in their ways," but life can change at any stage. A new job, a house move, changes to the family routine, illness, retirement, or the loss of a companion can all make the world feel very different for our dogs.

Separation anxiety isn't about a dog being naughty or stubborn. It's a genuine emotional response to feeling alone, and with the right support, patience, and training, we can help them feel safe and confident again.

I'm looking forward to helping Hunter through this transition and watching his confidence grow over the coming weeks. 🐾

If your dog's behaviour has changed following a change in routine or life circumstances, don't struggle alone. Sometimes a little support can make a huge difference for both you and your dog.

Have you ever noticed that on the days you're feeling stressed, anxious or overwhelmed, your reactive dog seems to struggle more too?

You're not imagining it. Our dogs are incredibly in tune with us. They notice our body language, our breathing, the tension in our muscles and even how we hold the lead. When we're worried about what might happen, our dogs can feel that too.

That's why, when I support families with reactive dogs, I'm not just working with the dog – I'm supporting you too.

Together, we'll help you understand what your dog is communicating, recognise those early signs before they become big reactions, and give you the skills and confidence to navigate walks feeling calmer.

Reactive behaviour isn't just about what happens in the moment. It's influenced by emotions, stress hormones and past experiences. My role is to help reduce those stress levels, teach your dog alternative behaviours that meet the same need, and carefully build positive experiences so they can make different choices in the future.

Every exercise has a purpose. Whether we're building focus, creating distance, rewarding calm choices, or giving your dog opportunities to sniff and decompress, each piece of training contributes to the bigger picture. Over time, these small, achievable steps come together to create lasting change, leaving you with a dog who feels safer, more confident and better equipped to cope with the world.

Behaviour is communication. When we understand what's driving your dog's emotions, we can create lasting change through kindness, enrichment and positive reinforcement. My goal isn't simply to stop a behaviour – it's to help both you and your dog feel safe, confident and able to enjoy life together.

I can also help with:
🐾 Anxiety and confidence building
🐾 Separation anxiety
🐾 Rescue dog rehabilitation
🐾 Puppy training
🐾 Adolescence
🐾 Loose lead walking
🐾 Recall
🐾 Training walks with a difference
🐾 General behaviour challenges

Every dog deserves to be understood, and every owner deserves to enjoy spending time with their dog without feeling anxious or alone.

If you're looking for support that gets to the root of your dog's behaviour—not just the symptoms—I would love to help.

Murphys first time on holiday without max and juno.
So far, hes needed a lot of coaxing to get him inside the tent, he is very wary of waves in the sea and he loves to dig in the sand. Oh and hes suddenly decided that he likes to run around with my shoes for the first time since ive had him.
