I saw this and thought i would share it as wheb youre working with dogs who are struggling with life in some way, its not just the dog navigating the stress, the changes and the modification.

At times, it can feel really hard and you want to give up. I know, I have had and still have a dog who still struggles with some things (although has improved significantly).

My plans don't just modify the dogs behaviour, they modify yours too and sometimes the emotions can feel worse before they feel better. BUT its worth it, hold on, keep going, progress is happening

I had my initial assessment with this handsome boy on Wednesday.

The first two clips show Hugo after working with two previous trainers using balanced methods.

His owners had been instructed to use a figure-of-eight lead, which wraps around the nose and neck, tightening when tension is applied. They were advised to yank on it to encourage loose-lead walking and stop his reactive behaviour. 🤔

Unsurprisingly, Hugo's reactivity got worse, and his pulling didn't stop. He just started reacting more, couldn't breathe and couldn't make a proper noise 🤦🏻‍♀️

But why?

Because his emotions weren't being understood, and the equipment and methods being used were potentially adding to his negative experiences around other dogs.

The last two clips show Hugo on his very first walk after his owners put my methods and guidance into practice 💪

✨ Equipment that doesn't hurt or feel uncomfortable.
✨ Positive reinforcement instead of punishment.
✨ Engagement instead of stern commands.
✨ Understanding the dog in front of us rather than simply trying to stop the behaviour we see.

My approach is based on a full, individual assessment, understanding canine behaviour and looking at the WHY behind what a dog is doing.

And the difference? Almost overnight! 🥹❤️

Behaviour change takes time, and we have plenty of work ahead of us but seeing this change so quickly has given me such a buzz!

His owners have spent so much money, time and effort trying to help him and now, for the first time in a long time, they're beginning to see a hopeful future of happier walks together. ❤️🐾

This is why understanding matters. This is why I do what I do.

Dogs don't need stronger corrections or more force. They need someone to listen to what their behaviour is telling us and help them in a way that makes sense to them.

I met such a handsome boy today. He really pulled on my heart strings as hes just like a bigger, darker max. The personality is almost a mirror image.

If I wasnt currently renting and probably already pushing it with how many dogs the landlords agreed to, he would most definitely have made his way into my boot today to come home with me.

If youve ever met max and thought how you would love a dog with his temperament then you really need to meet this boy 🥰

This girl loves everyone and everything sooooo much. Shes a real cutie but wants to be getting in the middle of everything and anything. Reinforcing calmness and disengagement is the way forward for this one.

What a crazy few weeks!

As you can see my dogs are now well and truly settled into their new home. Max is definitely thinking hes becoming one of the humans (im so so tempted to start giving him his dinner there).

My work hours are filling up quicker than I could have asked for and ive met a variety of dogs and their people with issues ranging from reactivity to over excitability and impulse control. Ive also started making great contacts in the area for a wrap around approach

Important changes!

14 years ago, I left Derbyshire, and 13 years ago I made Wigan my home. Over the last few years, I have built Janine White Dog Training and Behaviour into a respected and meaningful name within the Wigan area.

You may have noticed that I have been trialling the odd day in the Cheshire area over the last couple of months. The plan was to eventually expand into the area.

Due to some very big personal life changes, an overwhelming interest from dog owners in Cheshire, and with all roads taking me and my son in that direction, the decision has come much sooner than expected.

From tomorrow, Crewe becomes my main area of business.

For clients in Wigan, past and present, this does not mean that I am leaving you behind!

You have helped me build this business. You have become friends, and you have trusted me in a way that I am genuinely thankful for.

I will still be seeing clients in Wigan, but spaces will be limited to certain days.

This is a huge change for me personally and professionally, and although there is definitely a little sadness in leaving Wigan as my main area after everything it has given me, I am also incredibly excited to see what this next chapter brings.
