ANNOUNCEMENT – Training with Me 🐾

Hi everyone,

As my teaching role comes to an end for the summer, I'll have much more availability, which means I can work with even more dogs over the coming months!

If you've been thinking about getting some support with your dog's training, here's what you can expect when working with me:

Step 1: Initial Consultation & Assessment
We'll meet to discuss you and your dog's needs, the challenges you're facing, and your training goals. We'll also cover your dog's lifestyle, previous training, breed-specific traits, and anything else that will help me tailor a plan to suit you both.

Step 2: Tailored Training Session
We'll head out for a walk or meet in a secure field for a practical training session designed around your goals. I'll demonstrate a range of exercises and training drills for you to practise, while coaching you through them so you feel confident continuing the training at home. I strongly encourage owners to be present, as successful training comes from consistency and understanding.

Step 3: Ongoing Support
Training doesn't end after one session. I'll be available via WhatsApp and social media to answer questions, offer advice, and support you as you continue working with your dog.

Step 4: Follow-Up Sessions
If needed, we can arrange a follow-up session a week or two later to review progress, troubleshoot any challenges, and build on your dog's training.

As I'm continuing to build my experience, all training sessions are currently completely free. If you'd like some help with your dog, or simply want to have a chat about whether I can help, please don't hesitate to send me a message.

I look forward to meeting you and your dogs!

Willow’s Morning Walk Stats:

✅ 7km covered (6.5 of these offlead)
✅ 8500 steps done
✅ 3 off lead dog charges at us (Willow handled every single one like a boss!)
✅ one flat white consumed
✅ multiple splashes in the stream performed

Fulfil your dog in the morning, and you’re set up for the rest of the day!

REMEMBER: When we allow our dogs to be dogs, it is much easier for them to be pets!

If you need help with your dog, reach out and drop me a message! Sessions completely free whilst I build up my experience.

TUTORIAL - Continuation marker

The heat wave is over, which means walking and training can happen at a reasonable hour again!

Building on from last week’s terminal marker lesson, here is a tutorial on how to build a strong continuation marker.

REMEMBER:

‘Yes’ = you’re done, come and get your reward
‘Good’ = keep doing what you’re doing, I’ll come to you.

Now get those crocs on, get in the garden, and train those dogs!

Update – Training Sessions & Hot Weather

Hi Everyone,

This week I have had multiple people reach out and message asking me to work with their dogs and support them through training - the support for the page and myself has been fantastic and I can’t thank you enough!

I just wanted to let you know that I am currently working through messages and will be getting back to everyone as soon as possible to arrange convenient times to meet up and get to work!

Due to the recent hot weather, I’ve had to take a more cautious approach when scheduling sessions. The safety and wellbeing of the dogs always comes first, and in high temperatures it isn’t always safe to carry out training as normal. Because of this, availability has been a little more limited than usual. Add to this the fact that I’m only available evenings and weekends with this currently being a part-time thing alongside my ‘real job’ and you can see how it’s a hard time to arrange sessions!

I really appreciate your understanding during this time, and I will be in touch shortly to get everyone booked in at the earliest safe opportunity.

Again, I appreciate all the support and the fact that I’ve already had people enquire after only ‘launching’ a week and a half ago amazes me.

Thank you for your continued support,

Lewis

TUTORIAL: How to charge a terminal marker.

A well charged terminal marker allows us to establish a better communication system with our dog. A potent ‘yes’ marker is us essentially telling the dog ‘hey, good decision, now come and get your reward’.

Benefits of a potent terminal marker:
✅ much stronger and reliable recall
✅ can be used as a ‘disengage’ cue to help reactivity (NOTE - Thresholds will be important here)
✅ establishes a much better communication system where the dog actually understands us

Note - if using a clicker, go through the same process but switch the verbal yes to two clicks on the clicker. The result should be the same.
