🐾 What to Expect From a Cat Grooming Session 🐾

Every cat is different, and my grooming sessions are tailored to your cat's individual needs, personality, and comfort level.

When I arrive, I'll set up a work area with my tools and treats.

This can be on the floor or on a table, depending on your cat and the space available.

Ideally, a small room with few hiding places works best.

Before we begin, I'll spend a little time getting to know your cat and assessing their coat, temperament, and requirements. This helps me decide on the gentlest and most effective approach.

I always start with the most important parts of the groom first. This may be removing mats, dealing with problem areas etc, depending on your cat's needs.

I work at your cat's pace, allowing breaks when needed and giving them time to move around. Most cats are much happier being groomed in their own home and generally prefer not to be restrained.

I'll attempt to distract with treats and toys and I might ask you to help by holding your cat, so s/he feels more secure.

As a guide, most cats have around 40 minutes to 1 hour of grooming tolerance before signs of stress or frustration begin to appear.

But by prioritising the most important aspects first, even if your cat decides they've had enough, I’ve still achieved the most beneficial parts of the session.

Occasionally, I may recommend splitting a groom over two sessions or ending early if your cat becomes too stressed or if I feel it would no longer be safe or fair to continue. Your cat's welfare will always come first.

My aim is to make grooming as calm, positive, and stress-free as possible for both you and your cat. ā¤ļøšŸ±

Matted cat? Please don’t be embarrassed to message me ā¤ļø
I’m here to help your cat feel comfortable again — not to judge you.
Cats can mat incredibly quickly for all sorts of reasons, and many loving owners end up overwhelmed or unsure what to do next.

Meet My Cats 🐾 Satzu 🧔
Satzu was a tiny ball of orange fluff when we brought him home at 9 weeks old—hence the name (a little orange = satsuma! šŸŠ )

He was a companion for Buddy and they bonded instantly. Buddy completely took him under his wing… even going as far as chewing off his whiskers (like some mother cats do!) to try and stop him wandering too far.

By the time Satzu turned one, he’d become a little too round—we started calling him Sat-"sumoā€

Despite following the recommended kitten feeding guidelines, it turns out he’s just one of those cats who gains weight easily.

A diet soon sorted him out, but the nickname definitely stuck!

He’s basically my permanent kitten—cheeky, playful, and still obsessed with toys at 7 years old. And when I say he loves bum taps… I mean obsessed.

Satzu is also a keen hunter. He regularly catches mice, but rarely eats them—he much prefers bringing them into the house to continue the game šŸ™ˆ

I’ve become quite skilled at gently picking up very scared mice and popping them back outside!

I don’t mind the natural behaviour, but i've had a few too many ā€œhouse guestā€ in my appliances!

His coat is dense, but oddly very low maintenance. He only really needs a good de-shed in spring and a couple of brushes a week under his armpits—he never mats, which makes life much easier.

Food-wise, he has 30g of biscuits for breakfast, 30g for dinner, and a small bedtime snack—which helps prevent the classic 4am wake-up call!

He loves being out in the garden with us, racing around at full speed and climbing trees—he genuinely looks like a little koala 🐨

He was never a lap cat when he was younger which i found disappointing, but as he’s got older, he’s started to enjoy sofa cuddles… preferably under a blanket, with bum taps included of course.

And if you ever try to pick him up—there’s only one acceptable method: hooked over your left shoulder!

Oh, and one last thing…he sounds like a chicken, and he can sit on command. (Turns out training is very achievable when you’re working with a highly food-motivated little gremlin—and a stash of Dreamies!)

🐾 Meet My Cats – Buddy šŸ’›

Buddy is my rescue Maine C**n cross — big, dense coat, gentle giant personality… but without the obvious ear tufts and big face you’d expect.

I brought him home at 7 months old, not long after losing a previous cat to cancer; I was devastated, and it took me years to stop grieving — but Buddy filled a huge space with his even bigger personality.

He is, without a doubt, the gentlest creature I know. Despite his size and strength, he’s so delicate with his "brothers" — and even when he’s wriggling or clearly not impressed, he’s never aggressive.

Grooming Buddy was a learning curve for me. He was my first double-coated cat, and I quickly learned that mats and seasonal shedding are a whole different game!

He doesn’t mind grooming… but he absolutely hates being pinned down — and he’s strong, so forcing it isn’t an option.

Instead, I do ā€œlittle and oftenā€ā€¦ one armpit one day, the other the next. And sani trims… well… those are all about timing šŸ˜… quick, smooth, and decisive!

He’s one of the reasons I’m so big on working WITH the cat, not against them. Not every cat will sit still for a full groom — and that’s okay.

Food-wise, he’s brilliant. He has his 30g biscuits morning and evening, a little bedtime snack (to save me from the 5am wake-up call šŸ˜„), and if he wants more… he’ll catch it himself.

Mice are his speciality, with the occasional rabbit — although i sometimes find bird feathers in the house (which I’m less keen on!).

He eats the whole creature, bones, fur; its great for his natural digestion (he does remember to leave the guts though)

He’s not much of a lap cat — but when he does choose you, it feels like a real privilege. He shows his affection in his own way… he gives the best head bumps and tail hugs and goes crazy for bum taps!

And if you ever play with Buddy — use a wand or a kicker toy… never your hands unless you fancy testing your reflexes šŸ˜…

I love him dearly. He’s shaped so much of how I approach grooming — patience, timing, and respecting the cat in front of you.

More of my crew coming soon šŸ¾ā€
