As we slip into Autumn and the weather turns a little wetter and colder, many cats spend more time inside. This can increase tension between cats (in multi-cat households) if resources are limited.

Follow the golden rule: one resource per cat, plus one extra, spread out around the home.

Key resources include:

✔️ Litter trays
✔️ Food bowls
✔️ Water bowls
✔️ Beds
✔️ Scratching posts
✔️ Hiding places
✔️ Toys

Providing enough space and choice helps reduce stress, prevents toileting issues, and encourages natural feline behaviours.

A very special arrival… and quite a big one! 🐱💕

This gorgeous Oriental kitten made his entrance into the world on Saturday via an emergency Caesarean section.

As Mum was carrying just one kitten, he had plenty of room to grow - and certainly made the most of it! 🥰 He arrived as one very impressive little (or perhaps not-so-little!) bundle.

We’re delighted to hear from his owner that both Mum and her beautiful boy are doing really well at home. 💕🐾

Hot weather can be particularly dangerous for some dogs… ☀️

While all pets can struggle in the heat, breeds with short or flat faces (known as brachycephalic breeds) often find it much harder to stay cool.

Breeds such as Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers and Shih Tzus can be affected by Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), a condition that can make breathing more difficult. As temperatures rise, these pets may be at greater risk of heat stress and heatstroke.

Signs your pet may be struggling include:

🐾 Noisy breathing
🐾 Excessive panting
🐾 Difficulty exercising
🐾 Gagging or retching
🐾 Blue or pale gums
🐾 Collapse in severe cases

Meet Hermann! 🐢

Hermann the tortoise popped in to see Paul earlier this week for a little bit of TLC, including a beak and nail trim.

He was a very well-behaved patient and quickly won over our nursing team with his cheeky personality! 💚

Did you know? A tortoise’s beak is made from keratin – the same material found in our fingernails – and continues to grow throughout their life. This means that some tortoises may occasionally need a helping hand to keep it at a healthy length.

Every birthday deserves celebrating... especially for our wonderful senior pets! 🎂

The Market Town Vet Whitchurch family were invited to the dog-inspired fun day at the Lockside Cafe.

Paul’s dogs, Molly and Hooba, enjoyed having their paw prints on canvas, eating doggy ice cream and playing in the bobbing pool to retrieve tennis balls, to name a few of the fun games 😍 We enjoyed meeting new people and supporting the local community.
