Grass seed 1, Ronnie 0 🌾🐾

It’s officially grass seed season, and Ronnie has had his first grass seed puncture the webbing in between his toes

Grass seeds may look harmless, but they can cause serious problems for our pets. These tiny seeds can easily work their way into ears, paws, eyes, and even under the skin, leading to pain, infection, and in some cases requiring veterinary treatment to remove them.

During walks, especially through long grass, it’s important to check your dog’s:
👂 Ears – grass seeds can become lodged deep inside, causing irritation and infections.
🐾 Feet and between the toes – they can burrow into the skin and create painful abscesses.
👀 Eyes and coat – seeds can get trapped and migrate to other areas of the body.

A quick check after every walk can help prevent a small problem from becoming a big one.

🐾 Meet Luna 🐾

Luna was referred by her vet with suspected Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a condition where the discs in the spine become inflamed and painful. During my assessment, I also found an Iliopsoas Muscle Strain, which can cause pain through the hips and lower back.

One of Luna’s symptoms was reactivity around other dogs. Pain can make dogs feel vulnerable, and this may be expressed as barking or heightened sensitivity rather than aggression.

Treatment has focused on relaxing the iliopsoas muscle, reducing inflammation, and strengthening her core and hind limbs.

Her dedicated owners have worked hard with her home exercises, using her Optimus Therapy Tech daily, and regular physiotherapy visits.

Luna has made great progress, and I was so pleased to hear she recently met a couple of dogs without reacting. I usually visit Luna in her home, but today she visited me at the clinic for the first time and was completely relaxed.

Meet beautiful Ruby 🐾✨

Today I welcomed Ruby into my treatment room for her therapy session. She completely relaxed into treatment and especially enjoyed watching the birds outside while being pampered 🐦💛

Ruby has been diagnosed with medial coronoid disease, which is a developmental elbow condition where part of the inner elbow joint becomes damaged or fragmented. This causes inflammation, pain, reduced mobility, and over time can lead to arthritis within the elbow joint. Dogs with this condition often shift their weight and movement patterns to compensate for discomfort.

As a consequence of this altered movement, Ruby has also developed a supraspinatus tendinopathy. The supraspinatus is one of the stabilising muscles of the shoulder, and when it becomes overworked or strained over time, the tendon can become inflamed and painful. This is common in dogs compensating for chronic elbow discomfort.

Ruby’s treatment plan includes:

✨ Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMF) - used to help reduce inflammation, improve circulation, support tissue healing, and provide pain relief within both the elbow and shoulder areas.

✨ Laser Therapy - used to stimulate cellular healing, decrease pain and inflammation, and encourage recovery within the affected joints and tendons.

✨ Massage Therapy - to release muscular tension, improve comfort, and reduce compensatory tightness through the shoulders, neck, and forelimbs.

✨ Home Exercises - tailored exercises to help improve strength, stability, mobility, and overall movement patterns between sessions.

Morning at Vets4Pets Hinckley 💙🐾

Today I’m at Vets4Pets Hinckley helping some lovely patients with their mobility.

Our star patients today are Buddy (left) and brother Bertie (right). Buddy has been undergoing physiotherapy for conservative cruciate management and has come such a long way — today we measured an incredible 5cm increase in muscle mass since he first started. So proud of him!

His brother Bertie joined us too, as he’s been struggling with some neck pain. He’s a very active boy (and even been seen at Crufts 👏), so keeping him comfortable is really important.

Buddy isn’t usually a fan of the vet environment, but today he had his first laser treatment to help soothe his muscles — and he did amazingly well, staying calm and relaxed throughout.

Their mum is incredibly dedicated, and it really shows. She even has her own Optimus Lumina device at home and keeps up with daily treatments to support them both.

And of course, beautiful Dax popped in as well — she comes to see me regularly to stay on top of her mobility as she gets older, enjoying a mix of laser, PEMF and massage so she can keep loving her walks 🐶✨

Ace the Great Dane was back with me today—and what a gentle giant he is 🐾

Ace is one of my regular patients, currently on an ongoing maintenance plan to help manage arthritis in his hind legs. His owner has been doing a fantastic job keeping on top of his care, which really makes such a difference to his comfort and mobility.

At today’s visit, his owner mentioned that Ace has recently been showing signs of discomfort in his neck. This could be a compensatory issue—because his hind legs aren’t as strong or comfortable due to arthritis, he may be adjusting how he moves, stands, or carries himself. Over time, these changes can place extra strain on other areas of the body, like the neck or shoulders, leading to tension or discomfort.

Today, Ace had a session of PEMF therapy, massage, and laser treatment to help ease those aches and support his overall mobility. These therapies work to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and relax tight muscles—so fingers crossed he’ll be feeling much more comfortable now.

I’m SO excited to finally share this… 🎉

After months of planning, building, and a lot of hard work behind the scenes, my brand new physio room at my base in Whetstone is officially ready! I’ve created a calm, relaxed, “home from home” space where our best friends can feel comfortable, safe, and well cared for — and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out.

I am completely over the moon with the result and I can’t wait to welcome my very first patient through the door! 🐾
