🪙 PayPal: https://paypal.me/budgierescuewirral We are based in Merseyside in the North West of the UK. We aim to be guardians of budgies; providing rescue, rehabilitation, and a sanctuary for those either found as a stray, or surrendered.

We are passionate about budgies - a parrot species who remain one of the most popular pets in the UK but are who are also sadly one of the most commonly surrendered. We are a small, family-run and home-based charity run by Mother and Daughter team (Pam and Louise). We manage our rescue with help from family, friends, a great Board of Trustees, and committed supporters from across the globe! We work alongside other rescue organisations and charities worldwide, who share our passion for promoting better education, welfare standards and husbandry. Our ethos is to remain compassionate, transparent, and budgie-first in our education, advocacy, and support for the humans! Our rescue was established in 2022 and is based on 40 years of experience... but we believe that learning never stops and we strive to know better, do better everyday. LOST / FOUND STRAYS:
We help with rescuing lost/found stray budgies across our local area - please message us if you need our support if you have found a budgie in the outdoors. REHOMING / SURRENDERS:
We also support people who want to rehome or need to surrender their budgie(s). However, we balance our capacity carefully to ensure our current birds are not compromised, and therefore we may ask you to kindly wait for our availability. Stray birds and emergency cases are always prioritised. ADOPTIONS:
We support adoptions through our rehoming process! If you have space in your heart and your home to adopt a rescue budgie, we would love to hear from you! Without adoptions, we couldn't help new / future rescues due to our limited capacity. ABOUT OUR SET UP:
We operate from 2 HQs with indoor set ups and an outside aviary for our rescue flocks. We can support disabled or flight-challenged budgies in our adapted aviary set ups. Our indoor set ups and aviaries promote flight space, foraging, safe toys, natural perches/platforms, and enrichment. A high quality diet, including fresh produce and essential supplements is provided. Unfortunately we cannot take in budgies who show symptoms or have tested positive for PBFD, and recommend you contact the wonderful Sian at Charlie's Place UK Budgie Rescue. We believe in the highest standards of health, care, and wellbeing. Every bird deserves a second chance and PTS is our last resort. We are not medically trained individuals and therefore we cannot offer you specific advice; we access a specialist avian vet practice and strongly recommend you immediately seek veterinary help if you are concerned about your budgie's health. At the rescue, we practise preventative healthcare, but also support budgies who require rehabilitation or ongoing treatment / medical intervention. We will always quarantine new budgies who enter the rescue; this is a precaution for disease prevention and initial monitoring of behaviours etc. For this reason, we manage our intakes of stray and surrendered budgies carefully to ensure we maintain the highest standards for all of the budgies in our care. We do not breed budgies and will not support a breeding culture. We do not support budgerigar show exhibitions. We urge others to consider an 'adopt don't shop' ethos. DONATIONS:
We are Gift Aid registered! We have an Amazon Wishlist and accept other donations. Find out about how you can support us here: https://linktr.ee/budgierescuewirral

Thank you for your support! Pam, Louise, and all the flock

Golden Wings Aviaries 💛 Word of the Day – Bath

Bath… and if you own budgies, you’ll already know they all have very different opinions on this one 😂🐦💛

Some will throw themselves straight into a dish of water and soak absolutely everything within reach, while others will stand on the edge, have a look, dip a toe in and decide that actually, they’re quite happy staying dry thank you very much 😂 Both are completely normal.

Bathing is a natural behaviour for budgies and helps with keeping their feathers clean and in good condition. Water helps loosen dust, feather dander and dirt from the plumage, and you’ll usually see plenty of preening afterwards as they work their way through their feathers and put everything back where it belongs.

They don’t all like bathing in the same way either. A shallow dish is enough for some, while others prefer wet leaves, a gentle mist or running water. Sometimes it’s simply a case of offering a few different options until you find the one your budgie actually likes 💛

The main thing is never forcing it. Give them the opportunity to bathe and let them choose whether they want to use it. If they don’t fancy it today, leave them be and offer it again another time.

And when you do get one that absolutely loves a bath, you’ll know about it 😂 Water everywhere, a very soggy looking budgie sitting proudly in the middle of the destruction, followed by a serious preening session afterwards.

It’s such a simple thing, but giving our birds the choice to enjoy these natural behaviours is part of giving them a good life 💛🐦

So which one have you got? A budgie that turns bath time into a water park, or one that looks at the bath like you’ve completely lost the plot? 😂
