The National Animal Welfare Trust's first rescue and rehoming centre, the Watford site had previously been a commercial boarding facility since at least the 1930s, and during the Second World War was advertised as a safe place to evacuate your pets to from London to avoid the Blitz. The four and a half acre site is still providing a place of safety and rehabilitation to more than 400 animals a year. All animals we rehome are vet-checked, neutered, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped before being rehomed.

Last Friday, we celebrated 55 years of the National Animal Welfare Trust at our Charity Gala at The Grove, and thanks to everyone who joined us, donated, bid in our auction, bought raffle tickets and supported us throughout the evening, we are absolutely thrilled to announce that £31,219 was raised!

This incredible amount will go towards the redevelopment of our Hertfordshire Centre, helping us create a future where we can continue to be here for animals who have nowhere else to turn.

A huge thank you to Peter Egan for hosting the evening, Paul Martin for keeping our auction bidders on their toes, and to Rak-Su and Elite Elton for providing such brilliant entertainment. And to our corporate sponsors, PetPlan, Service Innovation Group, Pet Database and Mediahawk.

And, of course, the biggest thank you goes to every single person who helped make the evening such a success. You have helped us take another step towards building a future for homeless and abandoned animals in Herts!

URGENT FOSTER APPEAL – CAN YOU HELP ORLA?

Beautiful Orla needs a very special foster home to help her through the next stage of her journey.

Orla is a 5-year-old American Bulldog who came into our care as an unclaimed stray. Sadly, she found herself on the euthanasia list at the pound, but thankfully we were able to step in and save her.

Now, Orla is facing another big challenge. She is due to undergo major cruciate surgery next week, followed by a long period of recovery and rehabilitation as she heals, rebuilds her strength and gets back on her feet.

For this recovery, the kennel environment simply isn't the best place for her. Orla would benefit enormously from the comfort, warmth and security of a loving home, where she can rest, recuperate and receive the one-to-one care she needs while she heals.

Orla is an absolute sweetheart. She deserves the chance to recover somewhere she can feel safe, loved and comfortable while she takes those important steps towards her future.

We are looking for a kind and committed foster carer who would be willing to open their home and heart to Orla for the duration of her recovery.

Could you be the person who gives Orla the safe haven she needs?

If you think you could help, please contact our reception team at [email protected]

Even if you can't foster Orla yourself, please share this post. The right person might be just one share away.

We're looking for a rural home for our semi-feral cat Georgia.

Georgia came into our care as a pregnant stray, and she did an incredible job raising her kittens until they were ready to head off to their loving forever homes. Now it's Georgia's turn, but she's made it very clear that the typical indoor pet lifestyle isn't for her.

Georgia is a semi-feral girl with an independent spirit. While she appreciates regular meals and knowing there's someone looking out for her, she prefers to keep people at arm's length and spend her days exploring rather than curling up on the sofa.

We're looking for a very special rural home where Georgia can live safely with access to secure outdoor space. A smallholding, farm, stable yard, or country property would be ideal. She'll happily help keep rodents at bay while enjoying the freedom to roam, with a cosy shelter, fresh food, and someone kind to watch over her from a respectful distance.

If you think you could offer Georgia the safe, understanding home she's looking for, or you'd like to find out more, please get in touch with us.
