Promising start to the year for my young lad Cooper…he won his very first Novice Gundog Test in convincing style, also winning an award for the highest scoring dog of the day, & sired a nice size litter of lovely pups! 🏆🥂

Now for the challenges of working at Open level…he thinks he’s ready, I’m not so sure…😂

Encouraging to see the talent of his FTCh mother Hanwoodgold Breeze starting to shine through in her son, hopefully exciting times ahead with this delightful boy. ( Mistygreen Meadow Land.)

ONE OF A KIND….

Just had to share my girl’s recent achievement…superstar Gemma has just been awarded the title of Field Trial Champion, the dream of a lifetime!🥂
She ran the trial of her life last week, winning a Two Day Open A.V. stake in convincing style. This victory qualifies her once again to compete in the International Gundog League Championship at the end of the month, for the second year in a row.
Happy days indeed!🏆
This passionate pocket rocket of mine has really done me proud. She has had a tough few months, enduring whelping complications, a C-section & raising a litter of pups, yet has clearly returned to form in formidable fashion. She blasted her way effortlessly through a field of top Labradors & made it look easy!💪

We will do our best at the imminent championship, but she is already a winner in my eyes…I cannot ask for more.

And so ends the working test season, & a fairly successful one it has been for my girls. Busy gathering together all our trophies to take en-masse to the engraver…thankfully we get a discounted rate for a bulk buy! 🏆

Young Gemma’s recent win at an Open Walked Gundog Test on field trial lines was a great way to finish the summer, especially as big sister Lucy also made the awards.
I am lucky to have such a talented pair, well done to the Golden Girls, even if they do cost me a small fortune in engraving every year…

Onwards now into the gruelling field trial season, with the challenges of Two Day Open Trials to contend with. My girls also enjoy a full winter of picking up on several shoots, their absolute passion!
So important that working bred dogs are able to fulfil their natural potential & properly utilise their game finding skills.

My retrievers are of course expertly assisted by little Nancy…every picking up team should have a cocker! What a revelation this plucky little dog has been, phenomenal worker in the field, but an adorably affectionate cuddle bunny at home… She is certainly the best of both worlds.
Really glad I “went over to the dark side!” 😂

Lesley came to our house about a year ago to help with our Hungarian Wirehaired Viszla's severe separation anxiety. At the time, I couldn't even put my shoes on without him howling, and he was soiling and self harming when left alone.
In two hours she truly changed our lives and now our boy is so very good. Not only can we leave him for extended periods with no trouble (4-5 hours), he's just generally much more respectful and obedient.

I was reflecting on our journey with him (he'll be 2 in November) and I think without Les our lives would be extremely different. Thank you for everything you've done for our family 🩷

We really owe so much of our happiness as a three to Lesley. She changed everything, for the better, forever.

A grateful email just in from a client who was really struggling with her excessively noisy miniature dachshunds. Cute as a button, but she was at her wits end with this highly strung & very vocal pair. At eight months old, the pups lacked confidence, & were scared of everyone & everything, & launched into a flurry of hysterical barking in order to fend off “danger” & to keep the “enemy” at bay!🙄

They were at their worst on walks, screaming & barking & flinging themselves in circles on the lead, every time they saw a dog or person or bicycle etc. The owner admitted that she dreaded walking them now, as it was simply too embarrassing.

However…I am pleased to report that I spent a two hour behavioural session with these little monkeys last week, and received this lovely email today from the client concerned.

Always incredibly rewarding to know that one has changed someone’s life forever, in a positive way, & that of their dogs. Makes it all worth it.

Walking is a pleasure, after only one week, and we are now always able to let them off lead and so enjoy seeing them having fun. Olive is a lot more nervous than Kevin and we have had a couple of occasions where she has been chased off the field by a bigger more playful dog but it doesn’t seem to affect her and she always comes back to carry on walking. Im sure her confidence will grow every day.

They are both still a little nervous of new people entering the house but they don’t bark wildly anymore, they just back off a bit. Hopefully in time they will realise they don’t need to be so wary of people.

Again, a huge huge thank you. You have literally changed our lives and made us feel so much better that we now have a happy pair of pups!

Last year’s most memorable day…Gemma came 2nd in a Two Day Open Field Trial, obtaining a B-qualification for the 2021 IGL Championship! 🏆 Happy days!🥂

Really pleased with the way my youngster has turned out…Gemma is only four years old, & has packed a lot into that time....

Really pleased with the way my youngster has turned out…Gemma is only four years old, & has packed a lot into that time. Her best achievements to date being runner-up in a Two Day Open Gundog trial last year, in a closely contested finish. This earned her a prestigious B-qualification to run in the International Gundog Leaugue Championship, so truly a day to remember!🥂

This year, Gemma has represented the county at a couple of regional finals team events, contributing strongly to the overall result by maintaining great scores throughout. Always stressful when one is part of a team, but thankfully she didn’t let the side down…whew! She is lightning fast, a dynamic little dog, but can be impulsive, so things can go wrong quickly…😂😬

Her crowning achievement this year was to be invited to try out for a highly coveted place on the 2022 England Gundog Team! Huge honour simply to take part in the selections, but my nerves got the better of me on the day, & I over-handled her. Very proud nevertheless of my little girl making it so far, & holding her own amongst the top working dogs in the country. Quite surreal, actually, to have even been asked, to compete at that level!

So that’s my young Gemma…a warm & enthusiastic young girl, massively talented, highly driven to work, a passionate little soul who is formidable on game…yet a gorgeous cuddle-bunny at home, calm & sensitive & sweet, always ready for a snuggle on the sofa. Almost the perfect working dog…I love the way she effortlessly switches from pampered pet mode, to a ruthlessly efficient hunting machine….

She always gives 100%, she keep me on my toes, & has done me proud. Adore this incredible & crazy girl! 💙🐾🏆

What at an exceptional working test & field trialling season my girl Lucy had last year!
Even with limited gundog events taking place due to lockdown, this wonderful little dog gave her all, & brought home an astonishing 12 awards at Open level!🏆
Not only was she on the winning team at the Utility Gundog Society’s Regional Finals Event, she was also awarded the title of Top Individual Dog, achieving the highest score of the day.🥂
Super proud of my sweet girl, even if I do now need a bigger trophy cabinet…😂

And the winner is...!!!🥂🏆
Just had to share my big news! I am thrilled to announce that my young dog recently won the Midland Counties Labrador Retriever Club’s Novice Field Trial in Lincolnshire!🥇
It was a tough day, a walked up format in dense natural terrain, requiring strong game finding skills by the dogs, & nerves of steel by their handlers...
But my little Gemma held it together & ran a cracking trial in impressive style...& clearly the judges agreed! She picked hare, pheasant, duck & partridge, and got the job done with her customary speed, enthusiasm & intensity.
A fantastic victory for the only Golden Retriever in the lineup, pitting her skills against a strong field of more experienced Labradors!😂 In addition, she was voted dog of the day by the team of guns, also being awarded the trophy for Gun’s Choice, so a great triumph all round.🏆

Happy days, indeed, this little dynamo of mine really did me proud!
