Based in the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames, and we operate in the general areas of Surrey, Middlesex and parts of SW London, although we occasionally re-home animals further afield. At ARC our priority is to rescue, foster, re-home and assist all types of animals, while also offering advice, information and raise public awareness about animal welfare. All the animals that come in to ARC a

re looked after in private foster homes by loving experienced carers. They receive plenty of 'TLC' and any veterinary care that they require, including neutering. ARC does not put animals to sleep unless they are suffering or their quality of life is clearly unsatisfactory.

Meet the goregous Calypso 🧡🖤🤍

Calypso has had a rather chequered history having been found as a stray, taken in by her finder for a period before being rehomed privately. She was then given up to a rescue who returned her to her original finder, who then contacted ARC as he lives in a flat and felt he couldn’t give her a long-term home.

When Calypso first arrived, she was understandably quite anxious and paced quite a lot but, as she has settled, she relaxed and enjoyed attention.

She is now showing her true self, a goofy, very very sweet, loving and talkative little cat that follows my her fosterers everywhere. She loves company, playing in her tunnels with wand toys and, despite not liking to be picked up at all, she loves to sit on your lap and never stops purring or making biscuits.

She is a lovely, gentle girl and will make a wonderful companion.

Here’s an update on our gerbil that arrived with a broken leg, we’re pleased to say he’s had surgery, the leg was amputated and he’s recovering well ❤️‍🩹 he’ll be closely monitored and hopefully if all continues to go well they’ll be available for adoption in the near future.

Please ensure you are prepared for any potential vet bills, it’s always a good idea to put something aside each month so that
you have something already set aside for emergencies, you can also speak with your vet to see if they offer a payment plan or check to see if you’re eligible to use the PDSA using their eligibility checker that can be found on their website.
Small animals deserve the same empathy and care as cats and dogs.

We were asked to take in a pair of gerbils recently as the child in the home had lost interest, sadly one of the gerbils had been roughly handled by a visiting child, this resulted in a broken leg that was left without vet care for two months. We took the gerbils to our exotic vets and it was advised to go ahead and amputate the broken leg, he had the surgery today and all went well 🙏 he’s being kept over night with his brother (bonded gerbils shouldn’t be separated) so they can keep any eye on him, if he’s ok then they’ll come home tomorrow.

We know times are tough, but if your pet needs vet care it’s your legal responsibility to ensure they are seen, treated and are free of pain.

This is the boys having some time outside of their tank, this is NOT their permanent home! Gerbils need LOTS of substrate to dig and burrow in and lots of cardboard to chew.

We will also be looking for name suggestions for the boys, as their previous family were told they were female by a certain well known pet chain… and
had very girly names, we think they deserve a fresh start with new names 💙💙

Winnie, Dot & Po are three beautiful girls who are looking for a calm home environment with a family who are experienced with Guinea pigs, the girls are making steady progress and getting braver and more trusting each day! Their fosterer has been putting in lots of hard work work and it’s paying off.

These girls were initially part of a hoarding situation and hadn’t been treated well, they really really deserve their forever home 🏠
