For me: less people, cooler, nice rain on leaves sounds. For the dogs: Lots of super duper smells, more water in the river super exciting.

Middle (demonstrated by Marley) is more than just a fun trick to teach your dog.

My dog Stevie was a very anxious puppy, the world around her was just a super overwhelming experience.

So I taught her “middle” she loved learning it and thought it was a fun game. But actually it has a dual purpose for both of us.

After teaching her middle she realised that she felt safe in this position this allowed her to deal with whatever was going on between my legs instead of trying to hide elsewhere.

Still as an adult this is a position she defaults to when she’s scared. It’s a really solid communication from her that she needs support in the moment.

Aside from this “Middle” is also really useful for the following!
Putting the lead back on
Pausing for a moment and engaging
Impulse control
And more!

Today marks 1 year in business for Garrett’s Canine Services! What a year it has been, in my first year there have been plenty of highs and lows. I’ve learnt so much about what goes into running a (hopefully successful) business, there’s still plenty to learn but we’re doing it!

I’ve also gained so much experience working with different breeds & temperaments, watching how they respond to certain environments and getting to know what minute changes in posture or body language tell me about how they feel.

As well as the dogs I’ve met lots of lovely people both out on my walks and people who have become my clients.

Here’s to many more years! 🎂 🥳
