🐾 Puppy & Dog Training Classes in Three Legged Cross 🐾

Bookings are now open for my August evening classes, starting at 6pm. Places are limited due to small class sizes, so please get in touch to reserve your space.

Classes are available for:

🐶 Puppies up to 6 months
🐕 Young dogs aged 6-18 months
🐾 Adult dogs over 18 months

My classes are small, friendly and relaxed, with an assistant on hand to ensure every dog and handler receives plenty of individual support.

We focus on the skills needed for everyday life, including:

✔ Loose lead walking
✔ Recall
✔ Impulse control
✔ Scent games
✔ Engagement and focus
✔ Confidence building
✔ Low-level agility activities

Socialisation is carefully managed, helping dogs learn to be calm and comfortable around other dogs and people without the chaos that can sometimes come from uncontrolled play.

Every dog is different, so training is tailored to the individual. Whether your dog needs to master the basics or is ready for a greater challenge, we’ll work at a pace that suits you both.

During warm weather we even bring out the paddling pool, giving the dogs the chance to enjoy a little pool party if they fancy a splash! 💦

🐾 Junior Handler Classes Coming This September! 🐾

I’ll also be running Junior Handler classes on Saturday mornings throughout September.

The first session is already fully booked, but I still have spaces available on two further Saturdays.

These are fun, hands-on, two-hour sessions for young people aged 6 to 16 who would like to learn more about handling and training dogs through play and games. Participants will gain practical experience, build confidence around dogs, and develop their understanding of canine behaviour and training. We will be learning through games so there will be plenty of fun to be had!

Don’t have a suitable dog? No problem! We can provide one of our own friendly dogs for the session, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to take part.

Whether attending with their own dog or one of ours, youngsters will learn valuable skills while enjoying a rewarding and engaging experience with dogs.

It’s been a busy week so it’s nice to have a morning to train my own pup, Rosie, who’s doing very well. Recall 100%, steadiness 90%, stop whistle a bit hit and miss but we’re working on it!

This week I worked doing gundog training with another young Cocker who will be going beating in 2027. He’s doing very well but his steadiness needs work. He’s very capable with a lovely quiet temperament. Slow and steady…always!

I also worked with Cooper (in the photos) and his young handler - a lovely pup who’s a very quick learner. Cooper and Leon have a long and happy future together!

Then I worked with Barney the miniature Labradoodle who’s just 12 weeks old and bang on the nail with his training. There’s quite a lot of nipping going on but we have strategies in place to minimise this. It’s a normal phase which passes with time but needs managing.

Finally I worked with Murphy, a cockerpoo pup of 9 months who has started to bark excessively and hysterically when he sees dogs or people on walks. This is very frustrating for his owner and walks are not a pleasurable experience. We spent some time in the woods in a quiet environment with the occasional dog and person passing by. We used distraction and distance to help the pup relax as his anxiety is quite evident. By the end of our session he was able to approach and pass my Golden Retriever without a sound! This will take some time and is work in progress but the owner now has solid strategies as to how to deal with this

That’s a final wrap up! The last class for a few weeks and what a smashing morning we had. Super dogs and very nice owners too! Here they are getting their certificates and rosettes.

Over the past few weeks we’ve had a total of 32 dogs complete our classes. They’ve been all shapes and sizes and many different breeds from a teeny weeny chihuahua to big bouncy labradors. It’s been such a pleasure helping owners to train their dogs - the next lot starts in August and then Junior Handlers in September.

Lastly but not least thank you Olivia, my wonderful and trustworthy assistant, who is so good with all the dogs and always has plenty of ideas as well as remembering everyone’s and every dog’s names. I would struggle to manage without you! And my Patrick for your unerring support - keeping the lawn pristine, taking photos and teaching the stop whistle and having dinner (and wine) ready at the end of the day. I am very lucky…
